Suggestions for sub $600 Exhaust for best sound
OK, I know this is a very subjective question, but I'm trying to decide what direction to go and am more or less left to make a determination by listening to low quality YouTube videos.
I have a 2010 135i, with a Cobb stage1 tune. FMIC, ER Charge, COBB drop-in filter, Forge DVs and just about everything for a FBO except down pipes. I am extremely happy with performance of car and have built it for reliability versus all out power. I should be running Cobb Stage 1+ at this point but for reliability and daily driving have left it at stage 1. All this being said, I am looking for a slightly more aggressive sound, maybe some addition burble but nothing obnoxious and I'd like to keep my purchase under $600. From my estimation that limits me to just a few options, I also would like to keep a stock look and have black exhaust tips. Any recommendations? N55 Mid w/ stock AFE Mach Force Billy Boat Berk |

I got a shop to do a 3" muffler delete for $75. Couldn't be happier with it. I know everyone on this site will bash me and say that it drones terribly but it really doesn't. This car is my daily driver and I've never once wanted it quieter. In fact, usually I try to ride with my windows down so I can hear more of the car. This is the quietest car without a muffler I've heard. A muffler delete is by far the most economical choice if you're looking for a little more volume and a little more burbles (I've heard deleting the resonator gives you even louder burbles). My 2 cents.

I'm on Berk mids, all else (exhaust wise) is stock + golf T mod.
Windows up, there's a bit more rumble. You can't notice that it's louder. Put the windows down and you know it's louder. Not obnoxious at all or even loud enough to warrant PO attention. Just about perfect IMHO. Problem is you can't buy just mids new. I found mine used. I have not tried with the ex flap shut yet. ... My plan is to keep the rear muffler for the flap and put DP's on. I'm hoping the flap will keep it subdued enough for DD'ing that it'll be livable. |

I've only got Berk Technologies Race - Axle back (muffler delete) and I'm very pleased with the sound now that it's carbon coated. Everything else is OEM for now.
I was concerned that I sounded like a civic at first, but the tone is much more firm in terms of 'buzzing' like a can of bees back there. Awesome burbles on engine brake. Even more awesome braaaaap on WOT.
