135 Vs 335
Now that the roads have dried out here in Sydney, I'm able to get a propper feel for this loaner 335 'vert. It really is a lovely car. Very "easy" to drive, and extremly refined.
As my 135 is now only days away, this has given me a "taste" of what to expect. So I'm interested in people's views of the practical similarities and differences between the two. Looking at the numbers, the interior sizes seem within an inch in most ways (in the back seat the 1er is bigger). I'm likeing the exhaust note of the 335. Is the 1er similar? Clearly they are very different systems. I haven't given the 3er a big push, but it very clear it has plenty of everything. Is the 1er noticably quicker? Appreciate your views. |

The exhaust note is definitely different on the 135i. In my opinion is sounds alot raspier and the 335i souds a bit dronier and louder. The 135i is alot lighter and you can definitely feel the difference on the road. You really notice the smaller dimensions of the car and it feels just that little bit more nimble and light weight. Of course the 135i feels a hell of a lot faster than a 335i convert too!!!

Actually...335i Auto Convertible weighs 1750kg..
135i Auto Coupe weighs 1490kg.. A whopping 260kg difference...One BIG missus Duncan... So YES...The 135i coupe is alot lighter.. |

I test drove both, the 335i definately feels more like a passenger saloon than a luxury coupe IMO. The change in wheelbase length to width ratio is probably the biggest difference in feel. I can't wait till I get my 1.
Don't look at weight difference in terms of lbs, look at it expressed as a change in power to weight ratio. When looking at handling changes, look at wheelbase/suspension geometry, tires, and the difference in weight AS A PERCENTAGE. Scalar quantities mean little when they're not relative to a reference. |

Thanks for the feedback - sounds like I'm in for a real treat.
It's been months since i drove a 135 coupe, and the 335 'vert has given me a taste of what's to come. Both the 335 I have and the 135 that's coming are manuals, so no diff on that basis. But clearly the 335 is heavier. So that'll mean the 135 has a better power to weight ratio, which should = more fun. As i said, I am enjoying the exhaust sound of the 335. I just hope I enjoy the sound of the 135 as much - although I fully expect it will be different. Thanks again. |

True, but the 135 was not available when I bought mine (too small anyway as I have 3 kids) and the new M3 was also still not available so it limited my choice.

The 135 vert is 1610 vs 1750 for the e93 so a 140kg difference there. |

My boss has a 335 vert and it is a huge car when parked next to mine. It has more of a back seat, and as somebody else mentioned the interior is definatley more refined, but much less boot space because his is the hard top.
As far as drive ability he wont let me drive his and i wont let him drive mine. lol

And the e90 as well. I'd have thought a ragtop would be lighter.
Still the e93 is a sexy looking car with the top down. But not as sexy as the new Z4, test drove one the other week and I must say I love that long front overhang. |
