AKG DTM Selector Rod (DSSR)

Just got word that AKG has designed a dual-shear selector rod for the 1M (It also fits N55 powered E8X's and E9X's). I've read some pretty positive things about this component on other cars and I'm wondering how well it would work in the 1M.

Before AKG made this one, UUC was the only other vendor to offer one, and from what I've read lately, their quality control has slipped drastically.

It shouldn't be any lighter than OEM. If anything, a little extra weight would be beneficial as the extra mass helps reduce vibration transmitting through it and also lets it carry a bit more momentum through your shifts (similar to a weighted shift knob).

Nice looking piece. Not sure why you want it though. The shifter in our cars is pretty dam nice right out of the box. I don't get any discernible vibration through it, shifts extremely smoothly all the time and the throw never feels long to me. Only time I've used a DSSR in the past was on e30s because the factory selector rod tends to fail over time. Can't say as I've heard of people breaking the one on our car. Has yours failed or are you getting a lot of slop in the mechanism?

I have no issues with the way my shifter feels currently, but this can only improve it. A dual shear design is better in every way, especially when considering the wear that you will get over time with a single shear design. As I'm sure you know, this doesn't reduce throw or reduce vibration, simply makes for a more solid connection between shifter and transmission.

If you have 150k+ miles on your selector rod I'd say go for it. Short of that it's just not going to matter.

It's not the selector rod that wears, it's the joints on either end. A single shear design will wear the joints unevenly.

Again unless you have a LOT of miles on your car I don't think it's going to make hardly any difference.

Since you're pretty determined to get it please let us know if you can tell a difference once installed.
