N55 vs. N54 - limp mode
Is it fact that the N55 is NOT dealing with Limp Mode issues on track?

You get limp mode when you tune the engine to be more powerful (and therefore hotter) than it was designed to cool. Neither engine is immune to this. That being said, most of the people that I've seen with limp mode issues on the track are driving N54s (it's the more popular tuning engine).
Bottom line is: if you make the car faster, you need to make it cool better and brake better too.

I have a 2011 with the N55. Did 5 track days last year and zero limp mode. I do run 70/30 water to antifreeze with a bottle of water wetter during the track season. Also have an ETS Intercooler and PPk1 installed. The hottest track day last year was in the upper 80s.

All things considered, the N55 is better off than the N54, but not by as much as the Internet would have you believe.
