How do you launch your 6MT?
How do you launch on a drag strip trying to go as fast as possible (wear and tear be damned)?
How do you launch for a quick takeoff from, say, a traffic light but not necessarily all out, that is, preserving the drive train? |

TC off, SC on. 1st gear, 4k rpms, slight clutch slip on take off. 6K rpm shift point.

Interesting. What kind of 0-60 and 1/4M time do you get starting in 1st? Most guys I've noticed say they launch in 2nd due to 1st causing too much tire spin, though that may be an auto-only thing.

IMO If you value your drivetrain, then I think 4k is a little too high to launch at. I've found 2.5k with a slight feathering of the clutch and good timing will give you a strong launch with minimal wheel spin and no bog down. DTC on (press DTC button once) EDIT: just reread the first post. I guess my inputs if you're launching on the street. Not sure about strip. But regardless, don't ever launch in second gear with MT!!

2nd gear launch is strictly an AT thing.

Doesn't matter, 4k RPMs on the street or strip is crazy unless its a car with the PROPER drivetrain to handle that abuse.
I launch anywhere from 2k-2.5k RPMs. I side step the clutch and roll into the throttle in 1st and go WOT from 2nd to whatever gear. Works fine for me but slipping the clutch does help control the wheel spin better. |

P.S. the 4K rpm launch was done with minimal throttle to reduce boost. I didn't go WOT until the clutch was completely out. If you know how to control your nerves, and feet during the launch, you can properly modulate the clutch with a higher RPM launch. It's actually easier on the drivetrain and suspension components as the torque delivery is smoother. Launching at a lower rpm can cause the clutch to grab aggressively and jerk the car forward. Smoothness is the key and it takes alot of practice. My 78 Z28 race car has a 4 speed Muncie with 4:10 rear gears and a clutchmaster 4 puck clutch. I have alot of practice with MT cars and drag racing. Im not trying to pat myself on the back, but I grew up with drag racing, and started when I got my license at 16. lol. Use JB4 to limit boost in first. Rev it to the highest you can without spinning (takes testing based on your tire setup etc) and dump that bitch. Mash the gas and use JB4 No Lift Shift feature. Slam into second, boost jumps back to full boost in 2nd now that you have traction in first. Boost by gear is essential to getting a proper launch. That or some serious drag tires.
