Generally rattle on our N54s is the turbo wastegate. In some cases it can mean a failing turbo, wastegate actuator and/or other component (for example vacuum hoses that work the actuator), but apparently a lot of people also have the rattle and do not experience problems. Do you have any power loss / CEL light / error codes?

We are seeing a lot more threads documenting the clutch chatter lately. The general consensus is it is normal and due to our cars maturing in mileage. My car has it. The clutch grabs well and it drives great, just a slight chatter from stops.

I hear mine especially when I pull into and out of my garage which has cement block walls. I've had this noise since new really and I only have 20K on the clock.

I still think at least half of these guys have the turbo wastegate rattle You can try and find some videos on youtube to compare your sound and theirs.

Sounds like clutch chatter. As mentioned before in this thread, it is pretty common amongst manual transmissions. I have had it for the past ~25k miles and haven't had any other issues with it.

I have this also, and especially when I shut the engine off with clutch engaged in neutral. I get a pretty noticeable chatter. Chalked it up to normal rotational vibrations from the clutch assembly.

Only because the description in words is so vague that it is perfectly possible to take one for the other, and wastegate rattle is *really* common. It seems we both agree - somebody should do a video =)
