Exclamation a taste of BMW Welt, München’s Marienplatz, and Oktoberfest!

Oktoberfest, BMW Welt, and München’s Marienplatz...

Hi Gang,

Last week I decided to go to Oktoberfest. So… I decided to drive to BMW AG first, and go tour the WELT and then take the U-bahn from there to the weißen (where the fest is held). I made a small stop in downtown München’s marienplatz before going to Oktoberfest.

Normally when I drive to München I park in Garching, where the fussball stadium is located. At the Park & Ride there, you can park all day for just one euro and then catch the U-bahn into the city. But I decided to drive further to BMW’s Welt. Parking there is only ten euros for the entire day. No biggie. Besides… there is something special about parking at BMW AG.

I looked around quickly and then headed into the city. When I returned late at night I also took some night picture of the Welt and AG buildings. Hence the night shots.

I stopped in München’s marienplatz because I like to always grab a quick bite to eat at one of the delicious butcher shops that line up near the central Viktualienmarkt there. You can get most any food here. But I like to grab a fresh leberkäse or a spicy bierwurst when I come to München. I’m not really into München’s Weißwurst! I also make a point to go take a look inside some of the various big dept stores and toy stores while I am there. I am always on the lookout for a new toy model car! Something about that inner kid in me.

Just a few blocks away from the Viktualienmarkt I found this Oktoberfest Museum. I took some pictures but it is really TINY and kind of a rip off for the five euros they charge to get inside. But their restaurant is worthwhile! At least it smelled great.

http://www.bier-und-oktoberfestmuseum.de/dahoam.html

So… without further ado I bring you my little taste of München!

Well… enjoy my photos. Sorry for the 56K + + post!

Dackel.

As soon as I got south of Nurnberg I got stuck in a 8km/40 minute Stau! Uggg!!!

The unfall (accident) area…

Ahhh… clear autobahn! Back up to Warp7 speeds!!

BMW AG and Museum (bowl)

The factory next door to HQ.

The Welt…

Inside the old museum “bowl”…

An interesting car on display in the Museum’s lobby.

Inside the Welt…

Cafeteria…

123d

Navi map…

M3 style hood…

New brighter angels…

X1…

Gift shop – closed.

Small model cars on right side display case…

Baby M…

Two pedal power…

More pedal power…

New 5er…

New 5er Kombi (S/W)…

The Welt takes on a different feeling at night!

Ok… onto the city…

BMW workers leaving their shift and crossing the street to the U-bahn.

“easy & simply” ticket machine for the U-bahn!

The subway (U-bahn) map…

Some of the nice beer ads down in the U-bahn…

Marienplatz & the Rathaus Glockenspiel (bell tower)…

The Apple cult is here too!

One of my favorite places to go for a nice sandwhich or sweets. Located right next to the U-bahn in Marienplatz near the market.

pflaume kuchen one of my favorites!
cheese cakes…

This bakery is so well known they even have their own tent at the Oktoberfest! Nothing more German than Coffee & Cake!

A quick walk down the street (away) from Marienplatz and you come to the Viktualienmarkt area. And this small row of Butcher shops. In every one of them they sell sandwiches to go!

Fast food German style! Imbis. A fresh leberkäse or a spicy bierwurst?

Some other shops… honey and bee’s wax…

Cheeses…

Viktualienmarkt Mai (May) Pole…

A packed Bier garten...

Olive market

You can rent bikes here too.

Looking back at Marienplatz. The Viktualienmarkt is to the left.

A popular store that sells Dindle trachten(dresses).

The small Oktoberfest Musuem…

The old brewery…

Not a star of David but rather the traditional brewer’s symbol. For purity of beer.

Back outside in the city…

Dept store goodies…

The street that every American walks down…

Hof Brau Haus…

HB gift shop.

I came across this cool shop that sells old fashioned toys!

Munich fashion…

Fishing and Hunting Museum…

Touch the wild boar’s nose for good luck…

Friendly Polizei…

O-Fest fever…

Street performers...

2-stroke power’d hair drier!

München’s Hauptbahnhof (main train station)…

McDonalds!

To the left of McD’s is a really cool toy store. They had these…

On my way walking over to the Fest I came across this….

Willkommen zum Oktoberfest

Chicken or Duck?

Bier schrank...

My favorite bakery...

Lady Bavaria…

Paulaner Tent…

Some girls…

And back to BMW...

The End.

I went there for breakfast, boy what a morning after!
Yup, these pics bring me back...I just lost myself in these.
Wish I had the ingenuity then to park at the Welt and take night pics...hell I even brought a tri-pod.

Wish I did ED. My sis and I got stuck with a Ford Mondeo wagon because she couldnt drive stick and I wasnt old enough to rent a car (not that I can drive a stick that well anyway)

Munich is a great city tho. I loved the place. We only drove past Welt, we didnt go in. I want to save that experience for when I pick up a car there

Wow! I'm just speechless at all the goodness. Food, beer, girls, cars; you've got it all!

Never been to Munich, much less during OF, but I've gotta go. I'm showing these pics to my wife tonite to try to get her interested (might skip past the welt pics though).

Thanks so much for posting David, I feel like I just had a great day at OF!

The Hofbräuhaus is one Tourist Place. No real Munich Citizen will go to the Hofbräuhaus... its just too crowded.
When i was younger (arround 20) i go Saturdays to the Hofbräu.... the perfect Place to meet some fresh female Tourist´s. It worked fine

Marco you crack me up!!! Gotta laugh about going to HB to pick up the Ami Mädels (girls). I am truely sorry I did not contact you ahead of my visit. I really just decided late on the night before to drive down to Muenchen. I know one day we will meet though. :-)

I will go again tomorrow. I know.... I am a spoiled MoFo!!! I have the day off and the weather is suppose to be nice. Maybe we can meet? I sent you a PM with my handy/cell number.

Acyually guys when I was in the Hofbräuhaus I was surprised on how empty it was. They did not even have their normal German band there. I guess everyone was at OF across town.

I agree with everyone's thoughts on Hofbräuhaus - it IS a tourist trap. I much prefer to walk up the main street from Marienplatz to the J.W. Augustiner Brau. It was that white buildiing in one of my pics. Its on the left as you leave Marienplatz as you walk towards the Hauptbahnhof. About half way down that pedestrian street.

Another nice bier garten is the Hofbräuhaus in the Englisher Garten park. That is very nice. But kind of a walk.

I am glad everyone enjoyed my photos. Germany is so nice to visit. Many people just do not know what they are missing.

Yea... I always try to pop over to the Welt when I am down in Munich.
I know I am a spoiled SOB... by hey... at least I share what I see with you guys!!

I also like to drive by M in Garching and also go inside the BMW run dealership (Neiderlassung Haupt Betrieve) up the street from the Welt. They always have something cool on display there from the Museum or from BMW Classic.

Btw... that special green prototype car was sold at the BMW Museum auction last year. Every two years the Museum has special auction where BMW car collectors can sell their collections and or expand them! BMW Classic also sells some of their unwanted cars too. Have a look.... it was a great event last October!

Awesome pictures, I have been to Oktoberfest back in the late 80's. I remember cruising on the Autobahn in my 79 320/6 Baur.

It's GREAT that you will come here and do ED. You will not be disappointed!!

IF you have any questions feel free to send me a PM. Also look at my ED Museum links for ideas on where to go. BMW also has driving tours pre planned into the Nav... so you can always use one of their tours.

Everyone under the age of 60 can speak English. Every student must take four years of English. And some take eight year! So... don't worry.

Have fun!
