Golf Tee Mod

So last night went to the movies with a few mates (NO, NOT that bloody vampire shit!).

I decided it was time for the golf tee. Got into my golf bag, whipped out an orange tee, got a cable tie, and did the mod in about 30 secs max.

Fired the car up. The "Fwump" is a bit deeper on starting, and idle is just a small bit louder.

Where the Golf Tee mod REALLY shines is in gear around 1500-2500rpm. Such as 6th at about 65km/h. Lightly put the foot down and i can feel the sound reverberating in the driver's seat! It's a beautiful, deep, throaty sound.

I love it!!!! Be interesting to see how she sounds driving out of the car park at work this evening...

Agree - it's nothing substantially huge, but it is definitely noticeable. It's a more consistent 'hum' as you say, deeper as well It'll sound lovely on the freeway!

This one cost me probably 20c for the golf tee, and about 5c for the cable tie.

25c and 30 seconds of work. You beauty!

i think i'm getting old

I went high tech and used a bulldog clip. The sffect must be more noticable outside the car as I do see a few heads turn at the exhaust noise.

As a piece of boring trivia, the exhaust sound is even throatier since I fitted the carbon rear diffuser, I put this down to the air vents in the panal letting more noise out.

First mod I made, and the cheapest! I'd forgotten I did this actually, it's been nearly 18 months!

I used a ball bearing, squeezed it in the tube 1.5cm and then plug the tube back into the vavle. Same effect, just looks more stealthy and oem.

Aye - i think this is becoming the norm.

My car is in for service soon, so at least with the golf tee i'll just pull it out and reconnect everything up in 10 seconds.

I really do like the deeper noise in lower rev ranges.

Sylvania BMW... They are not blind.. Just a good relationship I have built up with the dealer over the past 25 years.

I have even taken the Dealer Principle for a drive to demonstrate the JB3..

Does this mod reduce the power for the 35i? I thought I read that somewhere in the DIY section.

How can it reduce power, when the performance exhaust eliminates the butterfly completely.

Guys,

Just wondered if the exhaust valve is not just for noise emissions?

Quite commonly in the motorbike world they use a similar valve to improve back pressure in the lower-to-intermediate revs range and so improve low down torque. I wouldn't be surprised if you would loose a little of the torque way down low (say 1,300-2,500 rpm) by making this modification.

Just my 10$ worth.

Mad Chemist.

I'm definitely considering this mod if it makes the car louder without doing anything else.
