Moaning Noise coming from N54 Engine (On and off...) What could it be??
Please check out the video below. It is from tonight, from my mother's 2008 135i with 22k on the odometer... . I pulled over to hear what the noise was, popped the hood, and heard the noises.... WTF could it be? Something common or obvious? There is no check engine light on, and the car seems to be running perfectly.
I need to check for codes later this weekend... Experts.... anything? Last edited by scott135i; 01-28-2011 at 11:27 PM.. Reason: Link added... video embedded |

Hmmm never heard that sound before from any N54. If I had to guess since it seems to be coming from the exhaust side is maybe a pinched or leaking vacuum line leading to the solenoid for the wastegates since that was what you were pointing to. Just my guess.

Solenoid might be on its way out. Take it to your dealer

Is the sound still there when you rev it up a little, does it change at all (pitch) or remain constant? From the title of the thread it sounds like it's not RPM dependent which would rule out anything mechanical inside the turbo, sans wastegate.

I love how you give the engine cover some 'technical whacks'
No idea OP, never heard something like that before. Good luck at the dealer!
