Aux input

My radio doesnt detect a signal on the aux port. I have my iphone playing music and plugged into the aux port under the armrest with a standard headphone style cable. Im not sure what you call the cable, but it looks just like the headphone cables male end, except that its double ended. One end plugs into the iphone (headset port) and one end into the female aux port under armrest.

Am I doing something wrong? Its an older 2g style iphone.

My manual calls for a Y cable, but I dont have a usb port in my 2008 135i, so I dont see how that would help.

does your radio offer AUX as a source in input selection?
In some cases due to the system coding the AUX input is deactivated

Yes. Tuner, CD, and Aux. I have it on Aux while Im trying, obviously. I've heard that the 2g iphones use a different style headphone jack, but I have used this cable for my iphone on other cars and devices.

Mine has messed up twice. In both cases it wouldn't do anything. Radio would not play, CD wouldn't play, Aux wouldn't play. I turned the car off and back on again and everything worked normally. I do not know why.

If yours consistently won't recognize the aux input I would try another aux cord and if that doesn't fix it I would take it to the dealer. They have a hard time with intermittant issues but a constant problem should be fixable.

Its funny you mention that. For some reason it works perfectly now.

I haven't done anything differently. Same cable, ipod, and car. It just works all of a sudden.

Its going to the dealer this weekend for an intermittent CEL anyway. Keeps throwing an exclamation mark inside a triangle and a yellow brake light.

They both come on together and stay on for a few minutes, then go away.

I've had this 135i for 2 weeks and I've had more problems and CEL's than I had in 2.5 years with my G35 w/46k miles. The 08 135 only has 5200 miles.
