1M looks more powerful and masculine while the M3 is more elegant and feminine. I can't believe how long the 3-series coupes have become, and not in a good way.

The 1M has serious presence.

Not so much as a "Whoa, that's an M3/R8!" but more so "Whoa! What car is that!?" *turns head and stares*

I went with the m3......yes a little more "elegant" and elongated I actually like the back half (from door handle) back on the 1m better. But the m3 bulging hood makes the 1m seem too plain now that I look at 1m pix...plus the 1m interior is pretty cheesy......
And I hate to say it but no matter how big the rims get.... the 1m still looks like a 1 series ... A entry M. Either way tho if your driving a1m or M3 Im sure your smiling as you pass everyone else by.....

This type of statement and logic is really starting to annoy me. For decades the 3 series has been the "entry level" BMW and I never once heard a person call the M3 "a[sic] entry M." A good car is a good car, regardless of where it stands in the cost structure.

100% accurate (it has happened to mine several times).

And perfectly stated.

off topic but:

it is just the low bmw prices you got in the US (good for you btw)

to people who say: 1M is for people who cant afford an M3, entry M and so on - i would love to see you buying either of this cars where i live

The 1M has a very short production run so in a few months your M3 will go back to being the 'entry M'.

I've been saying this since 2008.

And in regards to the thread...

Seriously, now whose trying to justify their car buying descision? It may not be what you intended, but this thread has just turned into a bunch of guys patting themselves on the back because they bought a 1M which now looks better. The insecurity on both sides of this fence is really getting to me, first you fought about performance and now ascetics? I mean you can't sit in quiet dignity knowing that you love what you bought?

They bought an M3, you bought a 1M, can't you all leave well enough alone? It's threads like this that are designed to garner inflammatory responses from the M3 crowd and I'm just waiting for this stupid flame war to stop clogging up my "New Posts" box, and threads like this one aren't helping.

Exclamation

Let's try and stay on topic. This thread was created to have a venue to discuss specific design elements of the two cars. As a former M3(E90) owner and soon to be 1M owner, I have ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO JUSTIFY MY 1M PURCHASE! I can find things I like/dislike about both cars. Just as others have responded to the 'entry level' comment(somehow now being used in a derogatory manner), the M3 was technically the entry level M car to the M5/6 for many years. Besides the 1M pricing to the M3 is MUCH closer to the M3 than the M3 is to the M6.
