1st autocross results.
I got three passes in before I screwed up and spun it into the Timing lights. Rookie mistake.
1-78 sec 2- 72 sec 3- 68 sec 4 - was flying and then doh. Good times but doubt it's something I do again. I like to DD my car to much. Don't want to break anything. |

I hope you didn't break the lights, I hear they are expensive. I leave the stability control in the in-between position (quick push of the button, not 3 second hold of the button) and have never spun. I ran mid-pack or a bit worse on the run flats but am hoping to do better on my PSS replacements. I need to find time to run one or more.
I wouldn't worry about the car, however. BMWs are made to be driven. The worst thing I've had to do to mine was polish a little mark from a cone out. Cooling fan doesn't even come on after a hard run.

Why would you stop?
You're not doing any additional wear and tear besides some tires and brakes. But if you drive like that on the street then it is no different. Give it another shot. You'll improve and get faster and get the bug. Besides hitting a cone and losing a jackpad, there has been nothing wrong with pushing my car to the limit: |

I always drive with DTC one click off, but turned it all the way off so I could get the car to rotate in the 1st section. Loss of focus, unexpected down shift and lack of LSD Ownt me.
Didn't break the light but messed up the cord. I'm debating on doing it again. It was fun, but I really want to road race. Doesn't sound like this is the best car for that. I should have some pictures soon. |

You may want to join an organization like the BMW Car Club of America (BMWCCA) that has track days. As a beginner, you have to have an instructor in the car with you but you get to drive a race track at speed. I can't do it with my convertible but with a couple you could. It costs a little more than autocrossing but track time this way is a lot cheaper than any other way you can do it (at least that I am aware of).
