1M weighed

http://www.bimmerfile.com/2011/01/22...r-weighs-a-1m/

3351 lbs with a full tank of gas. According to the bimmerfile guys, that's about 120 lbs lighter than a 135.

I think the -120lbs is pretty impressive considering all the upgraded hardware they added.

Apart from the lighter tires, I don't see where any weight could have been trimmed.

While the wheels are larger, I'm sure they are lighter. Sunroof, subframes, control arms, I've heard the car has aluminum shocks?

that sounds good. My 335i (with no sunroof) is 270 lbs heavier (with a full tank of gas)... I am sure that will be noticeable

I didn't know you could get a 335i without sunroof ...

There's my learned info for the day!

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream.

I don't know.... that looks like an M3 wheel to me. Wonder where they got a 1M to weigh.

On the European market, nearly everything is available as an individual option.

120 lighter than 135i?

Plus 40 more HP, M-3 suspension, body kit, limited slip, tire upgrade? $47k looks like a deal to me! I wonder how fast this car will be since the 135i tests out regularly at 4.7 0-60.

I can believe the negative comments I see around the web on this car. Ridiculous!

my 2011 135i 6mt with 1/2 tank of gas weighed 3290 lbs.

I don't see any real weight saving with the 1M, my car does have a sunroof.

You have a different motor and maybe not the same options, have to compare apples to apples plus add in the weight of the gas. And to be honest the fact they added a diff and saved any weight is amazing.

1/2 tank of gas accounts for about 50 lbs.

Also my buddies 2009 135i with steptronic and fully optioned weghed 3380lbs.

I realize they added a LSD, but I don't think there will be any real weight savings so they shouldn't claim it.

All weights were from a professional scale at the local drag strip.

interesting that you get comparable power and weight in both the porsche 997 and the 1m. just a bit more portly (3350lb vs 3280) and a bit underpowered (335hp vs 340hp) compared to the 997. both claim 0-60 in 4.7sec. hmm, $78k or 47k usd? hard choice.

By the time the 1M is on the market, the 997 will be retired and the new 911 (called 991) will be coming out with more power, less weight and much better handling.

true, but they're ridiculously close for now, which is impressive, given the price difference. i think the 997's curb weight is actually lighter than that figure i presented, too. thanks, wikipedia.

I don't know how you do it, the spec on the BMW US site is 3373 lbs. They must have weighed their car with a full tank of gas and a big bag of cat food in the trunk. Ideas anyone?
