Looking for help on track brake upgrade!
Got a 2012 1M coupe in AW and done about three track days in it do far, but as usual with a M car the brakes "grumble" then loose bite after 3/5 hot laps. Just wondered if anyone out there has any suggestions from new pads/fluid to a whole new system. Would look at all options a will be doing at least 10 track days a year in it. Cheers.

If you don't mind swapping your pads out before each track day, then Performance Friction PFC01 pads and Castrol SRF fluid are a great combination.

With the PFC01s I easily reached the boiling point of the stock brake fluid on a relatively cool day for Houston (mid 80s/29.4C) and since I haven't done a brake cooling duct mod I decided to go with the fluid with the highest wet boiling point even though it's 2-3 times the price of Motul. No issues ever since the switch.

What is the difference between the PFC-01, 08, and 09s? Is one more agressive that the other pad?

01 are little bit more aggressive but are also harder for you brake discs.
For trackdays 06 or new 08 are more then enough braking power and are far more easy on you're discs. These are endurance pads and they also last a lot longer then the 01. I tested both pads this weekend on the M3 GT4. |

i cant think of a better range than carbotecs xp brake pads.
if youre prepared to swap them befrore each track day then id go for xp10's or if you want to run them on the road id go for the xp8's. ive used carbotecs along with race fluid on m3's and evo's and found them to provide much better feel and performance than pf, ferodo and definately ebc. they usually can get them to you for next day delivery in my experience. |

BMW is also selling factory performance pads for the E93 M3. As the brakes of the 1M are the same, these pads fit both cars. Only downside, they cost 919 euros ...

If you change the fluid yourself, Motul RBF600 is a great choice. It should not be used in winter (Motul recommends Motul 5.1), and it probably shouldn't be used more than 6 months.
If you don't change the fluid yourself, Castrol SRF once a year is probably a better choice. It can be used through the winter and lasts at least a year. |

For now I've just changed the fluid, after a so-so experience in Spa with brakes fading after 20 minutes. Tomorrow I'll drive on a slower racetrack, will report on how the brakes react ...

I also have in mind that the E46 M3 competition / CSL sport brake pads where from Pagid, but I am told the current ones are form Textar. Could be wrong though! I will check mine when I swap them for the PFC 08 and see if there is something written on it.

On stock brakes I like the Hawk DTC pads with either Motul 600 or Castrol SRF. PFC01 or 06, 08 should also be great.

One could use a lesser fluid, but why would you. ;-). As Gary S indicated, SRF has the highest wet BP, I believe it is higher than the DRY boiling point for Motul, or at least very close. It is indeed easily good for a year, in my experience, including tracks like road atlanta and mid Ohio. SRF ROCKS. |
