N54 turbo replacement

Hey everybody,

I have a 2010 135i with 54k miles, trusted mechanic says the turbos need to be replaced. ugh. 2ABD/30FF/2D5A codes.

Generally, what should I expect in terms of cost for this? The stock turbos and kit is about $2400, but what about the the time/labor costs?

No facilities to do this myself, so I'm pretty much looking at this as a necessary cost of keeping the car.

thanks in advance for any thoughts.

54k is very low mileage for the turbos to be dead, even when tuned. It's more likely that the plastic charge pipe (connected to throttle body) has popped, which can easily be replaced in 2 hours or less. Recommend you get an aftermarket, metal replacement; several options out there.

Thanks a lot, man do I wish that it had been the charge pipe! Smoke test, vacuum hose check, waste gate, all working normally, so end of day it only pointed to the turbos. I agree 54k is crazy for this fail.

Previous owner had installed a jb4 box, drove hard, and maybe didn't change oil often enough, though the compression was perfect. On the flip side it was always garaged, so the chassis is in great condition.

Have you checked your vanos solenoids? vanos and cam position sensors? map sensors? Cam bearing ledges? If these forums have taught me anything it’s that there are things to check before throwing money into replacing turbos.
