Are heated seats plug and play?
I have been searching for days and cannot find a definitive answer to this question. If there is a thread, PLEASE direct me to it.
I (will soon) have a 2008 135i with leather motorized seats. They do not have heat in them. How difficult is it to install a heated seat that I could buy from a wreck or someone on here? I dont even care if the passanger has heat (and frankly I would prefer non motorized), I just want the driver seat heated. Are these seats plug and play or is it crazy digital reprogramming? Please help my frustration! |

I've been pondering this too. I'm not sure if any coding would be needed but I am missing my heated seats and would love to move to a Coral Red setup

Seat wiring harness run to dashboard wiring(different if you have iDrive or not) run to the fusebox for the heated seats.
The bad part is retrofitting heat pads in the seat.

Anything is possible given enough time and money spent of a project. I have only seen one post before (a few years back) where someone retrofitted heated seats. I think it was like $600 in parts. ? I would ask an upholstery shops in your area(look in your Yellow Pages) about installing heated seats. I am sure they know how to do it.
BMW does offer a retrofit kit. But its for only non sport seats and electic seats w/o memory. bmw p/n 61110434339 http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...75&hg=52&fg=95 Did find this DIY for a e46.... its worth a look to see what all's involved. Its a big job. http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=341242 .

Yeah I have been fairly actively looking into it. The only part that worries me is actually getting the pads into the seats. I have done a lot of interior work(everything else) but never take a seat apart.
Still, first time for everything like the rest of it.

I had aftermarket heated seats installed in my MR2 years ago. I watched it being done -didn't seem like rocket science. But I have no idea how easy it is to take a BMW seat apart - these seats are a lot more intricate than the ones in my MR2.

Hey Dack, could you help me out here? http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=980669 It's on a very related subject as this thread. I'm trying to find out the work that'd need to be done to add heating function into sport seats into my car which had HEATED non-sport seats originally. TIA oh and you could also move my thread to this sub-forum as well |

Sorry, I have no idea about this. I only remembered seeing the parts on RealOEM.com that I posted links too. Your going where few have traveled - so you will be pioneering the way!
