1 series vert vs. IS250C

My relative works @ a local Lexus dealership and I drop by today
talk about the new IS250C, amazing car due to arrive early May 2009.
starting price is $40000 Can$ and its a hard top vert.
I know we are talking about 2 different things here
can you guys comment about Lexus IS cars?
so I can decide to buy 128i or IS250C.

The IS is very nice looking car. The 250, though, is already no speed demon and I can only imagine the hardware for the convertible will make it even slower. You also want to see what the convertible packaging is like with the top down. If Lexus hired any ex-GM engineers, you won't be hauling anything more than a pair of socks when the sun is out...

An IS350 convertible would be better than the IS250. Only problem is the IS350 only comes in auto. So not much chance I would trade my 135i convertible stick for it. The IS250 comes in manual (or at least it did when it first came out...not sure about now).

The IS250C will hardly be an "amazing" car, unless you think the Toyota Solara with a hard top would be amazing.

The Lexus has an excellent interior but a 128i vert with the sport package would be way better to drive is my guess. I've driven all the IS's in the range (IS250, IS350 and IS-F) and I find the 250 to be quite boring other than the interior.

The 350 and F are a different story and I would figure that adding a hard top convertible will make the 250 even more placid.

Not interested in a hard top convertible. Too bad it seems that the soft top is a dying breed.

Looks great but not for $40000 for a IS250c with only 204hp. I would like to see the matchups on both Lexus IS250c/IS350c and BMW 128i/135i verts.

I test drove a IS250 a couple of months ago and it was rather uninspiring.

Not necessarily. The A5/S5 cabriolet will be a soft top when it comes out later this year.

The A5/S5 vert looks amazing. I think it is suck a preety car. A 50K plus base price however. I will keep my 135i vert.

Although i fell in love with the idea of hard top convertibles the very first time I saw one (I wanted the Benz SLK (AMG) for years, but it wasn't practical for me), I am EXTREMELY impressed by the soft top on mine. It's quieter than my mini van! (oh and a little faster )

I agree, the move toward hard top convertibles among some automakers (BMW included)is annoying

The Solara was based on the previous-gen Camry/ES platform. The IS is actually based on a Corolla platform, IIRC.

For whatever that's worth.

The IS will probably be very reliable, but probably not as fun to drive.

If you are tossing up between the 128i and the IS250c I would pick the Lexus any day of the week. If you were talking about the 135i I would definately pick that though. This new Lexus looks great, it's not the fastest IS but neither is the 128i. The new shape looks sleek and interior looks very modern. The hardtop is a clear winner for me. I love both cars though so don't flame me!
