1M coupe fan engine cooling

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced an overheat on their 1M.
The other week in Melbourne was stuck in Traffic in the heat for a while and all of a sudden had an alert of engine overheat around 130c. I pulled off and stopped car for 5 mins and when turned back on no errors or alerts found and oil temp was at like 90-110c. Radiator fan was making a whirring sound like speeding up to full speed then slowing down almost sounded like a muffled air horn.

I wasn't pushing her or anything so concerned. Car is tuned but first time this has ever happened.

Bit concerned to take her back out in the heat until I can diagnose and fix.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

44k roughly. It is tuned with Evolve tune butu never had issues before just seems after a long time in traffic in the heat it alerted at 130c and pulled over immediately.

Not sure if I should take it to southernbm or just go to rmautohaus to get it looked over.

That is fairly low km's for a waterpump to fail, but not unheard of.

I'd be buying a new waterpump/thermostat from Schmiedmann and keeping it in stock for the inevitable!

I DIY replaced my water pump as preventative maintenence. I went on a road trip to Tasmania and didn't want to be stranded

I bought from this seller on ebay, was the cheapest I could find. This is a genuine pump and has served me well.

Thermostat is sually replaced along with the water pump, at your kms its probably a waste of money.

buy 3 of these, Originals are aluminium and cannot be reused. The FCP ones are steel and can be reused:

Coolant, you dont really need to run 50:50 mix here in australia, can get away with running 2x bottles of coolant and the rest distilled water, will increase the effectiveness of the cooling system as well.

Probably around 3 hours labour. Buying the parts yourself will save a ton of money.

Legend i guess will have to confirm that is the issue has been sitting for 2 weeks while away on hols so will turn her on see how she drives locally and take her in for a review. Do you recommend anyone to do dyno testing to make sure tune is ok. Thinking of going back to stock and then looking at cob tuning or MHD as the evolve tune is a bit meh
