Harness, where do you mount it?
I have this:
I am going to install it this week for the next trackday. I was thinking about removing the upper isofix point, and mount an eyebolt there. That way it is hidden when not in use, but have anyone some better solution? The lover part i guess i just will make a bracket wich goes in the rear bolts for the seat?

I hope you have some sort of guide bar to use and are not planning to use a Hahns. I rode in a student's M3 last weekend and discovered that the placement of the harness attachment to the lap belt is too far about to effectively use a Hahns device.

Sure is. But would trade for a E82 120I if the price is correct. Coming as 2010 models. (120I with an ESS kit would be fun.)
About trackdays, Im only at BMWCCN arengements, ant there they take 1000.- for two days of driving. You could only pay for one day aswell and that i think is 600 ish. If its your first time, you get an extended driving course (theoritical) before you go. Then you can try first the family driving where noe bypassing is allowed, and aswell the demonstration of the perfect racing line. When you ar moving on to open track, i would reccomend class 1 for you if you have no experience. when you get tired of taking over people there, i would move to klass 2. (Hopefully fast, so i could drive with you.)

Airbags are designed to work WITH the OEM 3 point belt. The idea is that when you crash, your head stays in line with your spine because there is some forward flex and travel in the OEM 3 spoint. When you use a harness without a HANS, your spine (read torso) is anchored to the seat back and your head is not. If you are considering a proper harness, I would choose a 5 or 6 point harness along with a proper HANS and seat, otherwise, don't screw with OEM safety features. My Exige S had a chassis bar for harness mounting and pre-marked anchor points. The 135i doesn't. Hartage does this type of stuff, you should contact them. If you want a safer setup, you're probably looking at 2 proper HANS seats with shoulder cut-outs, a chassis bar for the shoulder straps, 2 harnesses, and a helmet. It's probably not worth it if it isn't a track car. You'd still want to use a normal belt when not wearing the helmet, and you'd have a bar across your car. This is the stuff safety-flamewars are made of on Lotustalk. P.S. If you install anything drivers side and ever want an instructor to set foot in your car, you NEED to install the same safety measures on the passenger side as well. |

OP should get a CG-Lock instead instead of a harness if you want to be held in place. I saw an E46 M3 with 5 points plow into the barrels by an underpass, severe spinal injuries resulted. Not sure if the guy made it, he was med-evac choppered out, it was along the 80 when I was headed to PSU. A CG-Lock cinches your OEM seatbelt with enough tension to hold you down. It's perfect for Autocross and it doesn't cost a fortune. A full harness looks cool, but it may be unwise to buy safety measures for looks. A safe race setup sacrifices EVERYTHING cushy about a car and leaves things ripped, sewn, and scarred. |
