The original estimates were 800-850. I've seen places where they said it might be as high as 1000.
The MSN article someone linked to (Best cars of 2011) claims 600. Take your pick

This would be good to know, once the dust settles. I too have also read 600, 800 and 1000.

I heard it's indefinite in terms of number, but the limit is due to time constraints. Once this model year is over, it's over. Or at least that's the last I heard. Someone can feel free to correct me.
Otherwise, just think of the number as "not enough"

BMW themselves don't know (yet) as they have repeatedly said it will not be limited based on count, but rather on production/time constraints. So I don't expect a round number.
Matt Russell (aka member BMWNAGUY) frequents this board, I am sure once production for the US is halted he can give us the final numbers. For now, fellow member ////Metak's sticky and registry will have to do.

Erik,
Looks like you are located in Greenville, NC. So am I. I haven't seen you around town. In fact I have only seen a couple of 1s in town since I have had mine.

You wouldn't see my red 135i any longer I sold it in 2010. I do really miss it though. I had planned on a 1M but lack of $ has left me without. I hope to pick one up when I get back to work. Tell me about your 1M. Maybe I've see you around town. I currently drive the X3 or the 325i.

When I picked up my car on 8/30, the were a total of (I think) 367 cars in the USA or on boats. The prior month, only 50 had come in. You can probably extrapolate from there but also take into account that the factory was on summer break for two months in August.
edit: two weeks...my mistake...I got rushed...I know those dates b/c my own car was finished just a smidge prior to their vacation. Last edited by Dee Pee; 09-23-2011 at 05:48 PM.. |

Noop! BMW Leipzig Werk/Plant was closed for two weeks (23rd July till 6th August 2011) for summer holidays. Not two months! When I toured Leipzig, they said they produce about fourty 1M's per day - on a normal production day. They don't even know how many have been made... they told us something like 2,500 units in total. But IF there is demand... they will continue to make them - for as long as they can. Who knows IF that will mean Jan or March or even later on in 2012. ??? What we DO KNOW... is that Leipzig can and will continue to build the older e82/e88's after the F20 production starts up in November. Leipzig has a flexiable line that can "mix" the production lineup. One car e88, one car e81, one car e84 (X1), ect. Our tour guide last week, said that now it looks like the stamping body shop might not need to close down for a month in Nov due to re-tooling for the F20 stampings. We shall see. I am still waiting on the ansers to my (our) questions from Leipzig Werk. They told me they had to foward my questions to BMW NA... bc only they know when SOP and EOP are for certain US models. I also asked about production numbers for the 1M. I am awaiting answers from the factory team. Dackel PS: while we walked around the factory for two and half hours... we only saw about seven 1M's and about five ActiveE's being built. The factory by far seems to produce X1's. |

So far the highest # on the registry is 762 of ______. You can't use July to extrapolate because BMW has clearly ramped up production in Aug and Sep(See registry). Like I said in a recent update, I think the number will be closer to 1000 for BMW NA.

Wow that sounds like a lot! So we are thinking they only produced between 15 and 25 days of production for the entire year for the US? I hope we are not unpleasantly surprised they produced a whole lot more than we thought. |

Seriously though, even if they build more than initially expected it's still going to be a limited production car. I have no doubt that this 1M is always going to be special. |

That's out of their normal 700 cars per day, produced by the plant. Hope this puts it in perspective. |

I'm guessing the final number of U.S. vehicles will be around 750 units. It would be nice to ultimately get official confirmation from BMW NA and make a commemorative plaque, t-shirt or something similar.
