I was wondering what this guy is wondering? anyone know what those two little pieces are? I think the rotor looks a lot better without them.

Anyone know what they are? reduce vibrations? thermal sinks?

Yep thats what ive heard too but i think they look weird. I dont see any other calipers with them so why do 135's need them? Hell im going to take them off before i paint them

I'm sure BMW probably had a good reason to put them there. It seems kind of silly to remove them based on looks, but I'm sure doing so won't make your car blow up or anything.

My '08 R32 had similar weights on the front calipers. My understanding is that they are designed to cancel out vibrations that occur in the pads when you're using the brakes.

I'm sure there was good reason why BMW gave us our stock suspension and RFT's as well

I don't need to see BMW's confidential test results to know these calipers can have issues with uneven piston pressure and vibrations when stressed. If BMW and Brembo thought those issues warranted vibration dampers, I'm pretty sure I agree.

OTOH I've seen enough threads on brakes to know that plenty of people want cool looking brakes and are not looking for brakes that can actually perform on track. I personally have no fucking clue what an ugly or good looking brake is, but if someone hates the looks of these vibration dampers, fine, take them off.

It would me more interesting question is it better to upgrade our rotors to e46 M3 ours are 338/26 and e46 M3 are 325/28 are they not to thick do they fit in to our calipers any body tried that?

I stuffed e45 m3 zcp/csl rotors (345x28) and brand new pads. it was a very tight squeze, but it works.

28mm is a tight squeeze with brand new pads but okay.

With 325mm instead of 338mm, I guess you'll cut a lip in the pads, and front brake torque will be slightly less than stock since there will be slightly less leverage from the rotor. I'm not an expert, but I think the torque difference is okay and will not increase total stopping distance.

...adding: Since you'd be using less of the brake pad surface, they will wear out faster, but maybe not a significant difference.

Thicker is better if it allows better ventilation or stronger construction. Smaller diameter is probably not an advantage.

They are there to reduce harmonics when brakes are applied. Just like the weights they have added to the pads.

They were off of the shop's 135i the first day we picked it up back in July of 2010. I think they were almost 0.5 lb per corner!

No, it's perfectly fine. Even with race pads on the track it was okay. We soon switched over to a proper BBK since the stock rotors just aren't big enough heatsinks.

That is really interesting 345 did they fit in to caliper or you used some adapter for caliper. Would you please share some pics.

I havent driven the car hard since then. I put 245's on that rubbed (im too low with unrolled fenders), have a steering angle sensor induced limp mode, and my alignment is so bad that i havent taken it above 50mph. Its getting the alignment done this week, and the fenders will be rolled as soon as i get it back. I replaced the pads with fresh ferrodo's and they seem to grab pretty well. They are very noisy. Very.

I took them off and there is no noticeable difference after hundreds of miles and yes they weigh a good bit like HP says!
