M Steering Wheel

My 135i came without the sport package, and subsequently does not have the M-Sport thick steering wheel like other models. Is it possible to just switch them out? If so, where would I be able to order the M-wheel and how much would it cost?

Your dealer, a wrecker, or a swap with another owner who doesn't like the sport wheel. The wheel itself is around 400 new, bit you also have the airbag and optional paddles. The total should be around $1,500. The complete sport wheel with multi function buttons, airbag and paddles is around $2,500

Shouldn't need the airbag though, since all coupes get the sport wheel with airbag stock.

The base model (eg not with a sport package) doesn't get the sport steering wheel, or the sport seats. The standard steering wheel is slightly larger in diameter, and has a thinner wheel grip. I am not sure if the airbags are interchageable.

I know the seats are different, but the E92 without sports package gets the sports wheel standard. The sports package is cheaper for the coupe if you build one on BMW's website. The sedan on the other hand does get the larger/thinner wheel stock.

I swapped mine out - It's easy. Just make sure you disconnect the battery before you try it (wouldn't want to cause a short that sets off your airbag).

Double check that the non-sport airbag will fit the sport wheel. It's been a while but I seem to remember they are different sizes. If so, you would need to order a new airbag as well.

The hardest part is removing the retention clips that hold the airbag in place. You have to fish a screwdriver through a small hole and push in just the right direction - you can easily spend 30 minutes on each side if you don't pay attention.

You may also want to check eBay for new sport wheels. There used to be a guy selling a LOT of wheels on there at a good price. I believe he was located somewhere in Europe and shipped to the US.
