Resonator Delete N55

Hi all

I wanted to remove the resonator just before the rear muffler to make it slightly louder. Will replace it with a Y-section pipe.

Will this affect my car performance?

It's just a reverberation chamber so the exhaust flow will be almost identical.

Resonator internal:

The internals of any resonator will essentially be a straight tube with holes to help deaden sound. The stock one is shaped like a Y but the concept is the same.

I replaced my resonator with the BMW perfomance one (kept stock muffler) and the sound is awesome. No noticable power increase. It will drone a bit if your can flap is open.

The moral of the story is that swapping out the resonator will not *negatively* affect performance.

That is my next step, BMW resonator delete. Currently, I kept my butterfly valve fully open. Like the drone but not enough.

You might want to replace your N54 midpipes to N55 ones to get the drone.

One of the threads has been drilled out due to a broken bolt, but a nut on the other side captures the bold fine with no issues. I did a mid pipe cats and resonator delete with stock muffler still attached, the exhaust is now a little raspy at low rpm. Will welding the resonator back on get rid of the rasp?

does anybody know what the part number for the BMW performance Y pipe is? Can it be bought separately from the performance exhaust?

Pretty much this. The sound improvement is subtle but excellent, especially with the DCT fart sound on upshifts. Much more metallic and raspy, I love it. It's pretty funny when you look inside the resonator though, it's identical to the Y-pipe but only has about a 1/2 inch section that's perforated..
