BMW Tyre and Rim Policy
Did you guys know that BMW have a Rim and tyre policy? So if you get a nail or damage the tyre you can claim and have it replaced at no charge. It is an insurance policy so it does cost for this policy, also it does allow for if you want to change from Run flats to normal tyres.
"This Tyre and Rim Insurance policy is designed to provide cover if your motor vehicle or motorcycle’s tyres are punctured, suffer a blowout, or are damaged by various road hazards such as roadside kerbs, potholes and road debris. It also provides cover for damage to wheel rims as a result of the same hazards." I have a copy of the policy is anyone wants it email me and i'll reply with it as an attachment, otherwise ask your BMW dealer about it. I'd see the benefit in having this, maybe new buyers should negotiate to have this included in the purchase price when negotiating to buy a new car? |

My dealer has offered this insurance to me for once my car arrives. I was told it also includes the use of Nitrogen over compressed air for tyre fills and gives you 3 free nitrogen "top-ups" per year.
Price was rougly $1000 for 3 years i think. Havent decided if i will go with it yet.

After I had already signed up for my car back in June 09 Bib Stillwell offered this option to me for $1100.
Would have been nice if offered before the deal was done, hence I didn't take it out. They also offered window tinting for $1500. I treated that the same way as the tyre insurance. |

Id for sure be interested in a copy of this policy, so i can be well informed about what all it covers. When i first bought my car, the day after i recieved it i noticed a knick on the bead of the rim, and slice in the sidewall. I know that nothing had happened to the car while i drove it home, but there was damage. I notified my dealer about the damage as it also needed a wheel alignment right off the hop. It took 2 months of fighting with them to cover the repair thru my tire insurance. They still denied it as an insurable damage, and made it seem as tho they had it repaired from the kindess of their hearts.
Anyway after going off on a ramble, do i email you directly, or PM thru your forum inbox? Thanks.

This policy is offered by most on the big insurance companies, with huge insurance to the dealerships, which is why they push it.
Also, you have to be mindful of the maximum payout since they are capped at $800 for wheel and $1100 or something for rims. There is also a maximum payable throughout the life of the insurance, this is at least the case with Allianz on it's highest policy. Also consider the cost of one of our tyres or rims as well. So make sure you discuss maximum payouts and evrything that's covered prior to signing up and a bit of bargaining might help too. In the words of Andrew, my 2c... |

It was mentioned to me me when I signed up in December , but the cost bandied around was $700 plus some change - not anywhere near the $1000 mark. There was a limit on the the payouts though as previoulsy mentioned.
At $700 I may well consider it, as a couple of months ago I got screws through both rear sidewalls for my HSV, costing me $1800 in one hit, on tyres with less than 5,000kms on them. The joys of working in an industrial area ;-) |

I'd be interested to see the pds for this. I'm aware of some tyre and rim policies on the market that are structural only, ie does not cover gutter rash.
There are also some scratch and dent policies that cover gutter rash but don't cover structural damage to the tyre and rim. |

Is a scrape of a rim on the kerb as you cut the corner a bit too tightly counted as a "scratch"? If so, not covered - as I read it.

Well, I had a close call this afternoon. Pulling out of the petrol station this afternoon and totally missed the low kerbing at the exit. By the sound of it, I envisaged major scraping, scratched skirting and alloys but couldn't face it, so drove home.
Looks like I escaped the worst of it, the wheel, hopefully iy's only cosmetic: The only underbody damage that I can see is this, I think it's one of the jacking points and is plastic, I think (?): Can't believe I did it. but seriously couldn't see the kerb that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere! Simon....

Bugger.
Those plastic jacking points are cheap and replaceable.

Interestingly when I read the policy discramer that Andrew attached... there is a phrase that they will not cover when the car is already damaged.
So many times I heard people that when they dint their car saying... I will claim it all together when I got hit. The trouble is... if you do not read the fine print... they will not honour the payout when you have existing damage. Say the front bumper is damaged before head on collision. If they knew... they have the right to not paying for the repair.
