We just ordered a Euro Delivery 128i

Jet black, Coral Red Boston Leather, Glacier Silver Aluminum Trim, Cold Weather Package, Premium Package, Sport Package, Xenon Headlights, Navigation, iPOD, Smartphone.

This is the second car that we have bought through Jack Mcdevitt at Inskip in Rhode Island. Jack is one of the "good guys" who really is enthusiatic about BMWs and really knows the details. He worked really hard to get us a deal that we would go for (twice).

Now comes months of planning the trip. I am really looking forward to testing the 155 MPH speed limit that comes with the Sport Package on the Autobahn.

Congratulations! Euro Delivery is definitely the way to go! The hardest part of driving in Germany? Behaving for the 1,200 mile break-in while driving in those unlimited sections.

Congratulations! ED is how I got my 128i. Make sure to plan a lot of driving. I had an extra 900 miles of driving after break-in was done on mine. Didn't have it under 120 unless i was stuck in Oktoberfest traffic.

I am going to Inskip tonight to delete the ZSP Sport Package, and add ZMP M Sport Package. You can't have the heated steering wheel with the ZMP so I will delete the ZCW Cold Weather Package, add 494 Heated seats. I can't have 688 Jet Black with the ZMP so I will change that to 475 Black Sapphire Metallic.

The ED was fantastic, I strongly recommend it to everyone. We dropped the car off at the Harms office just south of the Frankfurt airport on July 21. It sat in the Bremerhaven port from July 22 to July 30. It is now on the Maersk Wave that is due to sail on August 1 and arrive in NY/Newark on August 13.

It is difficult to predict how long it will take to go through customs, maybe up to three weeks. Then a few days in the delivery center, then a truck ride to Inskip, and then it will be mine again. Worst case I will not get the car before I travel to Germany again.

Pictures from the Welt delivery and in Honehschwangau with the Neuschwanstein castle in the background.

Euro delivery was a fantastic experience. I strongly recommend it. We got some really strange looks from the locals because a 1-series coupe is really unusual in Germany, almost all are hatchbacks. Nobody knew what a 128i was. It is sold as a 130i in Germany and has about 40 more HP from a different intake manifold and software. Driving in the twisty roads in Austria was a blast. Driving 135 MPH legally was a little strange. It turns about 5,000 RPM at 135 MPH and would have easily reached the 155 MPH limiter. The engine is still too new to push and the speed warning in the passenger seat kept going off. Waiting 4-6 weeks for redelivery is a killer.

The second picture was pure luck. The sun was out in the morning when we did the castle tours. It started to rain a little during lunch, and really rained as we were leaving the hotel. The picture spot is just a mile from where the castles are, and the rain stopped for a just few minutes. For a while the mountains were completely obscured by the clouds so you didn't get much perspective. After a few minutes the clouds cleared and I got the shot. A minute later the clouds were back.

We are making progress. The ship just left Halifax and will be in Newark very early Friday morning. Hopefully the customs/prep/delivery cycle won't be too long.

Hope you're more fortunate than me. I was held up in customs for 14 days. Almost jeopardized my limited window to do PCD, but it all worked out for good in the end.

Well, the Thursday delivery didn't happen. My CA didn't know what happened and didn't know where my car was.

I called BMWNA's Euro Delivery office to find out what was going on. They said that the car is still waiting for clearance from the Department of Agriculture. So, the BMW Owner's Circle tracking information is false and misleading. It says that my car made it to the Delivery Center on the 21st. That just isn't true, it never made it to the Delivery Center. The ED people also said that the tracking information given to the dealer is just an estimate. So the information that the CA has is totaly useless.

BMW says 4-6 weels for an ED redelivery. What they are not saying is that it can take 2 weeks to get your car on a ship, 2 weeks to get to a US port, up to 5 weeks for Customs, up to 5 weeks for Agriculture, a week at the delivery center, and a week on the truck. So the ED redelivery time is really 4-16 weeks and BMW has absolutely no way of knowing how long it will take for Customs and Agriculture clearance.

If I had known that it could possibly take 16 weeks for a redelivery I probably would not have done the Euro Delivery.

I can relate. The most frustrating part of ED is definitely the re-delivery wait and the uncertainty associated with it. I had a similar experience where my car hit the port and then went into some sort of black hole. No one could tell me what was happening with it or when to expect it.

This was for a West Coast delivery which takes even longer than the East Coast due to distance and the Panama Canal transit. In addition, when my car is "at the port" - it's less than 30 miles from me. The dealer that I bought from is on the same exit off the freeway that you'd take to get to the port. It was so close that I could taste it.

And I waited. And waited. It took about 20 days for it to get through customs.

But at the end of the day, you still had a great time in Europe and you'll have a great car once you get it. Just hang in there. Many on the ED board over at bfest have been there. What really sucks is to hear from those lucky sods that got their car in 5 weeks.

The moment you can head to the dealer and be reunited with your baby will be priceless. Good luck!

The car arrived at Inskip last night, earlier than scheduled. The said that they will do the prep this morning and I will be able to pick it up at 10:00 AM. Only three hours until I get my toy back.
