Oil Temperature on 128
I didn't really think much about it until I started thinking about it.
There is no temperature gauge on the 128? What is up with that? Gotta be the first time that I come across a car without. Now with all the emphasis that people put on not "reving" a cold engine, how long do you reckon for the engine to get up to temp? Thanks Manuel |

For the oil, I would say that it takes about 10 minutes to get up to temperature.

I assume it's like other models where the tach has hash lines along the outside edge that move further back as the car warms up. Can anyone confirm?

No temp gauge on the 128i or marks on the tach. Of course, the water temp gauges on late model BMWs are so heavily buffered as to be effectively nothing more than idiot lights once the car has warmed up.

search the forum
I read something about it being accessible through the hidden menus. Search the thread for it.
It's dumb. It's like accessing your xbox or ps game code by clicking on the left-right buttons while holding down the trigger...search for it under hidden menus. |

I have to admit I was surprised the 128 didn't have any sort of temperature guage. Since BMW has dumbed down the (coolant) temperature guage to be not much better than an idiot light, it is really more of a comfort thing than an actual indication of engine temperature. By the time the guage is in the red, an idiot light would have indicated the same problem of overheating.
