Wheel lock bolts for 1M (McGard)
I have seen some cars stolen their rims so I am using lock nuts with all my cars.
I could not find the information about 1M stud bolts so here it goes. 1M uses M12x1.5 25mm bolts. So, McGard 27179 will fit. I chose black edition. The weight difference was 7 grams each. |

They're better than nothing, but an 18mm or 19mm with a rubber insert hammered over those things is pretty effective at removing them. Still a good idea though, as they'll stop the laziest thieves.

Have you torqued these at a different rate to the rest of the wheel bolts. Have found if they are too tight they chew the inserts on the locking bolt key and then you've got real problems

Thanks. It was very interesting when I first got the car home I detailed and waxed it, including applying Wheel Wax to the rims. When I removed all 4, they were no where 80+ ft/lbs on the lug nuts.

Similar thing happened to me. Come to find out the local dealer 'outsources' tire related issues to a third party.

According to the manual, it should be torqued to 120 Nm. It was tightened to 120 Nm when I received the car. I check every bolts with torque wrench whenever I receive my car from the dealer.

Also got McGards on my M3s.
My 1M now also sports the "27179 - Black Edition". Indeed fit the 1M wheels like a glove. If this is a 1M "mod", then it's definitely one worth considering IMHO. McGard 27179 sub - Black finish head ("Black Edition") ($40.95 for a set at Tire Rack): McGard 27179 - Chrome finish head ($29.95 for a set at Tire Rack):
