GIO quoted me $1996 for the 1M... Funny enough, they have it listed as a M1.

BUT...My current vert, with a agreed value of $69K is $1750 also with GIO...go figure..

Ah yes - the old Sydney V Brisbane debate - that'll do it every time.

Had a mate a few years back who was quoted $27,000 a year to insure a WRX garaged in Cabramatta...

Don't get me wrong - there are bad areas of Brisbane (insurance-wise) but overall it seems to be cheaper than Sydney.... Don't know exactly why but I don't make the rules...

Also note: that wasn't the only reason I gave for why mine might be cheaper...

If you work on the fact that, on average, your WRX in cabramatta is likely to be stolen, burnt out, hi-jacked, or something else terminal at least annually. $27K/ yr sounds cheap.

And yes - there are other factors beyond the Sydney / Brisbane issue

$890 premium? You mean $1890.

I'm a rating 1 over 25 year old driver in safe Sydney suburb, max NCB for life with no infringements or claims ever and even with home/contents insurance and greenslip, and bumping up my excess to $1000, my premium is still $1265 annually.

How did you possibly get $890 premium with standard $550 excess? The premium with standard excess for me was close to $1650 annually. I can't believe that someone can get this for half the price annually with the same company.

Sydney dwellers - specifically north shore, try this. Playdo on $60k went from $900 down to $600!

No, I got it wrong. Its actually $810.16.

Moved from Queenscliff to Manly (100m down the road), premium dropped from $1463.89 to $810.16.

Wow. That's just ridiculous! Awesome for you, but completely unjustifiable that an insurance company can get away with charging over 50% more for a geographical difference of 100m.

I agree...
I just pumped into AAMI online quote various permutations of male/female drivers aged 26/36/46/56/66 in Manly/Queenscliff/Balgowlah/Seaforth with max NCB, garaged etc... etc... 135i auto/manual 2008-2011 models market value and the best quote I could get is still only $1260 premium with $1000 excess (~$1450 premium with standard excess). I can't fathom how you managed to get it so cheap unless they stuffed up from their end.

That's more than it costs to insure my 996 turbo. Might want to join/tell them you are a member of a car club and hold a CAMS licence.

I went with Just cars because BMW insurance wouldnt even insure me... Im paying like 2.7k premium with 1.2k excess which was cheaper than what BMW insurance quoted me (before they said oh we cant insure you...).

I was insured with them for a year on the 325 and i still have contents with them, i only left them as I could get my policy for almost $1000 cheaper elsewhere. When i changed over they were marginally cheaper (less than 50c a month), but i really liked their policy and their backing (they are underwritten by IAG, which cover CGU, NRMA, Swann etc. etc.).

They have choice of repairer and their claims process looks A1. Whenever i had a question their online chat gave me a thorough quick response.

I also liked their approach to mods. They don't charge extra for mods but instead give you a modification excess. Its awesome because the thinking behind mods is that they increase risk. By imposing an extra excess for mods and not premium I saw it as the insurance company giving me the chance to prove that whilst my car was modified, it didn't mean that i was a higher risk.

Like i said i only changed due to price and TBH I am slightly uncomfortable with my current insurer but when a 20yr old can insure a modified BMW with an agreed value of 27k for under $700 a year it's hard to say no! I just hope if i have an accident that its a write off.

I am considering changing to NRMA though as they offer 10% cheaper than any competitors quotes. I just haven't got around to reading the fine print. It might be some Friday afternoon 'market research' at work

Sharing in case this is helpful to others ......

I've just priced my renewal for a 2009 manual 135 coupe - agreed value of $60K, including hire car, one excess free glass claim per year and NCB protection, no drivers under 25, garaged and private use

RYNO (current insurer) - $1550.09 with $500 excess
BMW - $1961.70 with a $650 excess
GIO - $1517.61, or $1459.28 (with CTP) with a $600 excess
Coles (Northshore special) - started at $1414, but adding the hirecar, glass & protecting NCB, it ended at $2090 with a $650 excess

Interesting that, if I use their own numbers, they value the hire car at $76, the no excess glass claim at $61 and the protected NCB at 10% of premium - $177. That all adds to $314, plus the original estimate of $1414, for a total of $1728.

Not the final quote of $2090 - which is supposed to include a 10% discount for purchasing online. Granted it includes free roadside assistance that I don't want, and some once a month fuel discount - say $4.18 in value (what BS!!!)

So I guess the lesson is, look closely at the Coles offer - even the basic numbers don't add up.
