Seats - Final answer ?
Need to sit lower in the car and be a bit better held in place. Thinking about the recaro speed seat from turner motorsports with the associated sliders and floor mount.
Anyone have this setup and can confirm if it will fit and give me some more head room. I did find a couple of topics from searching but none answered all of my questions. Thanks in advance Link to the kit http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-22...peed-seat.aspx

While I don't know for sure about the headroom, I too looked into getting recaros. A while ago I read that some complicated coding is required to trick the side airbag sensor. Apparently makes swapping seats a big pain.
Maybe you have looked into this and found an easy solution? |

Great thread, I too am interested in sportier seats for my 135i. With a helmet on, I am crammed into the head liner, and could use another 2 inches of headroom.

Adding recaro's with sliders will actually give you less headroom. The OEM sport seats sit really low in the car. I have Racetechs in my car in a fixed position and I lost about 1/4 inch of head room. But the lateral grip and stiffness totally makes it worth it. Keep in mind i'm 6'3 and i'm more torso than legs. I have the airbag lights and seat belt lights on in my car. I've worked with a few coders (including a tech from a dealership) to get rid of the lights but so far no luck (on a 2011).
FYI if you want seats cheaper than turner send me a PM and I'll put you in touch with a friend of mine that's a dealer.

I haven't prior to you mentioning them...just did a quick google though. I have my seats mounted with the VAC kit. It's about .5 inches thick of billet aluminum. Extremely strong and worth the money. I have the rear of my seat mounted as low as I can get it, the shell of the seat is about 3/4" above the carpet. Only reason I can't go lower is b/c of the side mount bracket just doesn't line up for it.

For the price of the new seats, I wonder if there may be an option to somehow retrofit / convert the seats you currently have? Someone skilled enough (ie in old car restorations) might be able to change the construction / padding / etc. of what is already in the car?

Just tried to install my recaro pole and the floor of the 1 is very easy. U dont really need to adapter or slider. Just mount the side mount to the floor and give u more than enough head room.

Has anyone managed to code out the side airbags and put the OE occupancy mat in the aftermarket seats?
Any information from people who have gone through the coding process? Want to bring this topic back up for more info. |

Yes for recaro pole. Instead mounting the side mount to the sliders you can mount straight to the floor. I did mounted but did not take any pics. I was sat so low in the car.
