O2 spacer vs. sim for catless DPs?

Has anyone tried putting a spacer on the DP O2 bungs vs. using the O2 sims? I know people using test pipes on the 350Z (and other cars I'm sure) just put a spacer in to pull the sensors out of the exhaust flow a little and this gives good values to the ECU. It seems like this is a better approach than modifying the signal with sims since BMW will likely kill your warranty for modifying the ECU with them.

The spacer may or may not work, soldering a diode inline will work...it's a bit of a pain, but a 30 cent mod, and fairly undetectable. A good alternative would be to just run the damn cats.
