No. The DME will set to a default (limp home) map and allow the car to be driven at reduced output. He's just describing basic turbo operation, without any sort of modern control in mind.

That isn't true. When my lower intercooler hose broke off the car ran fine. no codes, no limp mode, no nothing.

So what about if we get HPFP failure? Does putting it in map 8 allow me to drive my car until it is fixed safely?

That is really my only concern with this car besides the water pump, and I already know if the water pump fails not even god can save me...

If the HPFP fails entirely the car won't start.. but that's rare. If it's just tired the car should drive fairly normally out of boost. Should.

Cool good info. Just curious. Never had to deal with the HPFP being the second owner, but on my 2010 it failed at 9k miles according to the service history lol.
