Premium, Convenience, both, neither?
What do you guys think of the Package options for the 1M?
Premium package? Convenience package? Both? Neither? Coming from a fully-loaded M3, I'm not sure I want that screen on my dash distracting me anymore, but it is highly functional. Thoughts?

I went with no packages. Saves ~60lbs. and $5400. The nav screen looks like it was an afterthought, too big and ugly for me. I only added heated seats and bluetooth.

I did the premium, but not the convenience. I wanted the lumbar support in the seats, and the premium is the only way to get it in the US. Plus it has the other features I am coming to appreciate.

agreed. I did premium only for lumbar and power seats. I did convenience only for comfort access. It would be much better if they let you pick and choose.

Heated seats and BT only. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved lumbar and definitely an alarm. I can't believe BMW lets you buy a "limited production" M car without an immobilizer. That will be my first add-on, although CA says the factory alarm can't be added after the fact (I've heard otherwise, but a Viper will do just fine if not).
Anyway, the E46 M3 stripper argument posted elsewhere on this forum really made sense to me. Resale buyers who don't care about the lack of a sunroof won't care about lack of other creature comforts...in fact, they may be viewed as negatives. |

I did ipod/USB only. I would have loved to have Comfort Access, but I wasnt willing to pay $6000 for it. I hate bluetooth and never use it, and I live in GA where there is no need for heated seats.

ipod/usb comes with bluetooth now... that's all I got, along with heated seats.
if it's going to be a street car only.. then make it comfy.. if it will be a weekend/track car..then I would go with minimal options, and avoid the premium package which adds power seats (heavier and taller.... robbing headroom). I very much doubt that optiions will make much difference on resale, and I woul bet that more buyers in the future will look for a base car with no options as opposed to a loaded car., Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 08-15-2011 at 01:22 PM.. |

I found that after 9 years my e46 M3's Navigation was very long in the tooth; besides the HD upgrade costs the same as my top of the line Garmen. |

My reasoning for getting both is somewhat similar to yours, however, this thread is making me wander again. Why can't the alarm be standard and comfort access a standalone option!!

ipod/usb
bluetooth heated seats I'm taller, and welcome the extra headroom manual seats provide. I'll save the infotainment unit for my couch/familytruckster/car (530i). Additionally I believe if a car is to have such a screen, then it must be actually integrated into the dash design, not protrude from it like some sort of beacon. I even feel the e9x and e60 middle hump is oddly positioned. And as a side benefit - once I decided to skip idrive, the weight of tech-toy fatigue lifted off my shoulders. I'll save tinker time for my home theater PC and smart phone. And if I'm inclined to start tech tinkering w/ my 1M - perhaps a vishnu procede is in my future. I use my phone to manage music and podcasts, and to get me where I'm going. Don't need my car to add a layer between myself and those things. |

Why is there the $350 option of "Satellite radio with 1 year subscription"
if the first year is supposed to be free. Does NOT getting the option mean that you're not getting a satellite-capable radio at all?

I really don't get why anyone would want power seats in a car like this. I doubt many 1M owners are going to be lending there rides out to many people. I will manually adjust my seat when I first get it and don't see the need to mess with it for years to come.

I ordered mine fully loaded because I won't be tracking that car this much and I am not a professional driver by any means, so really my times would be for me and my own enjoyment. I think if/when I do sell this car, that a fully loaded car will sell better. Also the convenience features are nice on what is going to be my daily driver. My use case is having a fun car to drive back and forth to work. Maybe once every couple of months I track it. On the weekends I have an extremely fun car to drive on twisty roads with the windows down with my girlfriend in the front seat.
The people that are buying stock are (I think) more competitive, will modify and track the car more, and are trying to save money and weight. $5400 that you don't spend on packages is enough for a really nice exhaust upgrade and more. Just my thoughts though... I could be completely wrong.

There is no right/wrong on this topic. You should buy what you want. I think of this thread as providing folks w/ the opty to articulate to themselves and to others what motivated their decision. I find it therapeutic
My personal prediction is that loaded cars will carry a premium and sell faster compared to a stripper if sold in the 3-4 years from original delivery timeframe. Over time, condition, mileage, maintenance will command the premium. |

No options will be easier to unload later, if needed and my race seats are in my garage waiting to go in. Options? Who need options!
Just go try to find a stripped no sun roof E46 ///M3......

If the car is a DD, get both. Well worth it, especially if you are a smartphone user.
