If you want to compare the supra to the vette, then we can look at it historically. Here's some data I found on the web for the '94 supra, and the C4 vette (which was the current version at the time):

Code:
                          C4 Vette '94 supra
0-60 mph (sec) 6.0 4.9
1/4 Mile (sec/mph) 14.2/98.0 13.5/107
Top Speed (mph) 158 155
Braking (ft.)(60 - 0 mph) 135 109
Lateral Accel. (g) 0.89 .98
If history is any indication, then I have no doubts that toyota can build a competent competitor.

I'd guess that they'd follow in the footsteps of the 350Z more than the GT-R. Which means a toyota supra, and a lexus IS coupe (IS500?).

There is no reason to use 12 year old data. I am sure with those magical internet searching hands you can dig up some current stats on the C6 Vette.

Something told me that a simple thread like this one would spark heated debates. Historically, when comparing the Supra against the Z, the 240Z (a car I loved) came out as a 1970 model. In 1965, Toyota (along with Yamaha) introduced the 2000GT, which has been regarded by many as Japan's first "Supercar."

The Lexus LF-A is a concept car, but the new Supra is premised on a real Lexus Supercar chassis that should be introduced in the near future.

As for the Evo and WRX-STi comparisons, we're talking apples and oranges here. Those are essentially economy cars turned into Rally cars. The Supra has always been refined, and had evolved into anything but an economy car. I doubt any of us would seriously compare the Mitsu/Subaru pair against the e90 for the same reasons. The 1982 Supra won Motor Trend's Car of the Year award, and was regarded as a Japanese BMW by many. It had a DOHC Inline-6, had the best Recaro-like leather seats in the business (adjustable lumbar and side bolsters), slick 5-speed manual trans, independent rear suspension, power sunroof, rear sunshade, etc. The exhaust and gas tank filler were on the same side as in our e90; it drove much like our e90. It even had the same exhaust sound as our e90s do. It simply lacked two rear doors. Yet for it's time, it was an awesome car for its refinement and agility.

Z all the way. For a base price of 26k, you get an engine that produces 300 horsies, a steering system that (being a previous owner) out-handles the e90 (currently owning), and non-brembo brakes that stops just as well. I dont know of many people who would rather get a V6 supra for 40k, when you can get a V8 C06 for a few grand more...As for battling the Z, its got no chance, being 14k more. You know what a tuner can do for 14k? Dropping a RB26 TT that produces 500bhp (same weight as the vq35) into the Z will make it quicker and stronger than the V8 version of the Supra. Hands DOWN! Z33.

now we're comparing Zs to e90s? That's comparing an Apple to a Grapefruit. What gives?

There is no way im paying that amount of money for a Toyota. No offense to the company, they are the most respected company out there, but I would rather get a vette, Z or even better, the new camaro (employee discount). I just cant fathom spending 40k+ on a toyota.

Im not arguing against our e90, just trying to give perspective between that car and the Z. Since we all own an e90, I thought it would be most relevant to use our cars as an example. Would it be better if I told you that the Z is more responsive than the S2k?

ps. the GT-R (Infiniti badge), the Z's bigger bro, will be in the same price range as the V8 Supra. Speculations are that it will feature a VQ35TT (turbo version of the VQ35) that will produce 450hp. :rocks: Time for lexus to bring out its V10 super-car! (or TT their V8).

I think the car looks nice great. The problem is they're going to ask too much money again. At this price, it wouldn't be comparable to the 350Z.
The last Supra sold very poorly. It was too expensive and they pulled out of the US. Supra's have been sold in Japan all the while.
I have a 2006 Z06 and wouldn't even look twice at the Supra for $50k. My car also dynoed at 449 rwhp (stock) with only 1200 miles on it. So at the crank, it's making about 528 hp. They're not going to be adding hp to the standard Z06. In 2008 there's strong rumors of a Corvette SS coming out. It'll have an all carbonfibre body and reduce weight to about 2800-2900. It'll also use a supercharged 6.0 liter engine putting out about 650hp. This will compare in price to the Lexus LF-A.

That Corvette SS you speak of - that the same thing as the "Blue Devil"?

That's the internal name for the car. A supplier for air filters just leaked some specs today.
Here's the post:

Also, the car Jan Magnusen drove at the 'ring was a standard Z06, not the Blue Devil.

650 HP is insane. 150 more than both the M5 and M6. And about 40 more than the Benz SL65. Insanity, I say! Plus, this vette won't be as heavy as any of those.

EDIT: Assuming this supercharger weights 100 lbs (going on the heavy side) and just saying that the SS will weigh 3,300 lbs - that's a whopping 5.1 lbs/HP. That beats both the F430 and Murcielago but not quite the Carerra GT (5.03 lbs/HP).

Think about it. If they do come through, even with 2900lbs, it'll have a better power-to-weight ratio than a Ferrari Enzo!
That is crazy. Especially if they can do it for under $150,000!

Yup, absolutely insanity. The wonders of having a fiberglass body...

My only issue would be....how many people would be willing to pay that amount of money for an anerican made product. i mean i would, but not everyone is like me. Im thinking that people would rather buy something like an Ashton Martin or Ferrari, something more exotic for their money, (even though they cost much much more to maintain).

Every time I see a Viper, which is rare, I am still amazed. Despite it being American.
