You'll need to have a car produced in 2011 or later with equipment that requires combox (bluetooth, 6FL etc.).

I bought a Kinivo BTC 450 to play music with Bluetooth in my car. The only problem is that you have to change the songs on the phone rather than through the controls on the car.

I'm stuck using my lightening cable from apple. I like that it charges my phone, but I wish it had the option to play wirelessly. I had an X5 as a loaner and my phone would automatically connect and play when I got in. Nice feature to have.

Look into the Blackberry Sound Gateway - works a treat for streaming music and allows you to remain connected to existing bluetooth for phone calls at the same time..

I bought one of these mini BT adapters based on an install/review I saw on another board (m5board perhaps?). So far it's been great. I leave it plugged into USB and it turns on/off with the car. Cheap, too.

The best BT adapter I have found is the tune2air wma1000. Pop that sucker on a Y-cable and connect to it from an iphone, and as far as the car is concerned the iphone is physically plugged in. Functionality is exactly the same.

Android/Winphone can connect just fine, but you lose some things like playlist control, although the steering wheel lets you go forwards or backwards, and I don't think the song name appears on the HU. At least, my windows tablet didn't show the song name.
