Walnut/Poplar Wood Gear shift selector
I just picked up a 2006 E90 accessories catalogue. I am really consdidering ordering the Walnut Gear Selector Lever ($160). My 2 E46 330cics had it, and it looked really great. Kind of odd that an E90 330i with premium package and walnut wood, would have the metal gear lever! Part no: 25 16 0 391 597
Has anyone ordered this? Can it be installed yourself? I remember changing one years ago on an E320, but I'm sure BMW is different that MBZ. Thanks! |

I have it, if you do a search I have a pic of it on here. I got it from scircle BMW, i think it was $116. It just pops off thoudh it takes a lot of force to come off. When you put the new one it, it's not all the way in unless there is NO space between the bttom of the shift knob and the leather. I found that if you kinda wiggle it a little when it's all the way down while applying downward force it eventaully clicks in.

Called Pacific BMW. Thought they were supposed to be cheaper, even with their "internet/mail order pricing"? It is listed for $160 in the BMW accessories brochure, and Pacific wants $176 + tax + shipping, and it is not in stock. Rip off. Wonder where else I can buy it?

I think it matches well with the car if you have the Idrive knob..

I'm one who has received better deals via Crevier. I hate to post a link to a competing site but they do have an online "parts counter" - post and see - http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/partscounter/

To me, with out the iDrive, the aluminum shift knob did look out of place. I went ahead and changed it and found a buyer for my aluminum shift too .... so, it worked out for me and I am happy I changed it.
I went with the dealer and paid full price listed in the catalog, but he changed it for no charge. Installing it self is not a big deal, its just pull it out and push it in ... no pun intended. Here is the pic. |

I'm doing the shifter and the brake lever and selling both on ebay. Probably just stick the items in a cabinet in the garage and post in a year or so when some of us BMW fanatics have some wear/scratches showing on the originals and want to replace with fresh pieces and not pay full-market BMW price for the replacements. It has worked in the past for me. With the wood interior - these pieces (while pricey) are a nice finishing touch and I figure I'll recover 1/2 the investment down the road.

I may be the odd one out here, I prefer the metal shift knob, one because it matches my iDrive knob, but also because I actually love the feel of the metal in my hand. It has a coolness to the touch, and has a sensual smoothness like silk... because I have a manual, I have to touch it more than the auto drivers.
I thought it was a bit peverse, but others I have had in the car like the feel of it too so it isn't just me

Hey Ledzep. OMG, that wood insert/cover for the steering wheel is so hideous. If it wasn't in a BMW brochure, I would think it was a joke. Doesn't it cover the wheel mounted buttons also? Gross
Love the wood gear lever though. I have actually gotten a few compliments on it (and I didn't even point it out first |

Just picked up my two walnut selector levers today at the dealer. I installed the one in the E91 while I was at the dealer (just in case I had trouble I figured there would be plenty of help). Piece of cake. Installed the one in the E90 when I got home. What an improvement!!
Anybody want to buy a couple of satin aluminum selector knobs... ?...
