Hey and welcome!
I just picked up a manual 130i myself and it's fantastic! Just need to find a spare few K for a LSD and some CSL rims... Q - why preference for auto? I haven't driven a 130i auto for the thought of that gloruis I6 engine being held back by a self-shifting 'box makes me sad

lol, don't buy an auto just to try something new, a manual will be much much nicer to drive. The auto would feel slow and lethargic in comparison in my opinion.

Don't buy the 130 in an auto - you'll regret it.
If you're looking at cars around 80k and up, look for waterpump/thermostat replacement and VANOS check. Also headunit display fade and MULF2 failure. Bonus stuff to look for: Brakes - $$ bonus $$ if rears are upgraded too! Coilovers - $$ LSD - $$$$ Anything BMWP

Most of the cars 130I I am interested in have done around 80000, if not just passed. Those waterpump / thermostat and vamos seem like expensive fixes... And I've heard of the mulf2(Bluetooth? ) failure... seems expensive to fix as well, especially when I don't have time to DIY these days did you experience any of the above problems? And how much are the parts roughly? Sorry for the barrage of questions, just overly keen to get stuck into my future 130i |

Yep, mine had the waterpump and thermostat done at around 75 - 85k as preventative. $1,300 supplied and fitted. MULF is the bluetooth module. Failed on the previous owner who fixed it, and now it's failed again. I'm not gonna bother with it - Bluetooth connectivity/features are dismal in this car. All good, better to ask all these questions than buy a car and find out the hard way! I started a thread when I was looking, and theres lots of good information in there about what to look out for.

Mine is for sale
Check it out on car sales. Comes with extended BMW warranty until Nov this year so no worries. In excellent condition and I have not skimped on maintenance i.e. done preventative stuff like auto trans service by BMW Sydney (not cheap). Just serviced Friday 21st of May by BMW Sydney and they found and fixed all the known oil leaks under warranty. It also got new control arm bushes and rear discs and pads.
BTW - the auto is great - manual mode with paddles Check other cars you look at for oil leaks - very common around oil filter and rocker cover. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...SSE-AD-3341921 Last edited by 1BimmerNut; 05-20-2016 at 11:23 PM.. |
