Leather vs. leatherette in hot climate?

Is there any truth to the statement that BMW leather "breathes" thereby making it a little more comfortable in hot climates? I actually prefer leatherette because it looks better 5 years down the road and I could get an upholstery shop do a fabric insert for a third of the leather price.

i dont have personal experience with the 1 series but in the 3ers I have been in that def holds true. The leatherette gets very uncomfortable when it gets hot out
