Maddad with stock muffler sounds great. Maddad with Magnaflow sounds great except there is MASSIVE drone 1800-2400.

Cure for Drone

I have installed the Mad-Dad mid-pipe also. Greatly reduced the drone but it is definitely not gone completely. It exists in a norrower RPM range but is a touch louder than stock under very light throttle. With slightly more throuttle it almost disappears.

Dinan has released their new exhaust for the 1M. It has a specific chamber designed to eliminate the drone. I went by there today and they said it has effectively eliminated the drone completely. They had their 1M appart for additional parts development so I was not able to take it out for a listen. I plan to go back in a couple weeks for a first hand listen. The exhaust is BEAUTIFUL!! (as are all of their other 1M bits).

Drone or not, after 3-M3's (e30, e36 & e46) I am totally intoxicated by the 1M. My favorite BMW to date.

Interesting on the Dinan. Can you post after you go back? I'd like to reduce the drone to stock levels, and I think I'll have to get rid of the Magnaflows to do it. I liked the sound with Maddad and stock mufflers.

I definitely used to suffer from a nasty drone between 2600-2800 revs. People in the car would ask what is wrong with the car, as it was so noisy inside at times. A few months back I replaced the standard exhaust with a full Milltek system. Is not much louder than stock, but there is no drone at all. Makes long journeys and commutes great. My favourite car ever.

What parts of the exhaust were replaced with the Milltek system?

Is their primary cat back full system, my detailed knowledge of where exactly that starts is a bit wooly, sorry. There are more details on their website. http://www.millteksport.com/exhaust.products.cfm?variantid=355 I have no connection with them, just pleased with the result.
