Oil temperature question.
Hi,
Since I bought the car I never seen my oil temperature go up to 200.... Most of the time it stays at 100-120. I mostly drive to school, it is about 5-6miles of driving though. In my understanding, the engine goes up pretty fast since its turbo charged. I'm concerned because even my A5 3.2 NA gets average amount of oil temperature gain with same distance driving. Thank you TK |

5-6 miles is too short for the engine to get fully warmed up if you're just driving normally. Turbos are barely spooling that way too.

I have a 7 mile commute and my needle never budges. It's totally normal.
[sarcasm]What would you possibly be concerned about with this situation? The car doesn't get "hot enough?"[/sarcasm]

if you keep it up, make sure to change your oil more frequently.
it would also be a good idea to take your car for a long drive (20+ minutes) in the evening/on the weekends. |

This is totally normal, my engine barely starts to get warm on my 20 minute drive to work in the morning. This has also been discussed several times previously if you search.

Wait until summer. Syracuse has cold weather so it would take longer than 5 or 6 miles to fully warm up. BTW, on my 135i, the oil temp gauge does not move until 180. As I recall the 328 loaner I drove did not have an oil temperature gauge, nor did the 335d. In it's spot was a fuel economy meter, probably a vacuum gauge thingy.
