For God's Sakes, Don't Pump The Gas Petal????

According to the manual:

"When starting the engine, do not press the accelerator pedal. Do not allow the engine to warm up by leaving it running while the vehicle remains stationary."

What's up with that? I mean, this goes against everything I have been taught about starting a car.

I heard your engine will explode if left idleing for more than 32.89 seconds.

No fuel injected car requires pressing the pedal, so I am not sure what you have been doing for the last decade or so Pressing the pedal was on cars with carbs to make sure there was fuel in the carb then the engine so it would have fuel to ignite when you cranked it. Fuel injection is computerized so the computer does this for you. Most new engines do not require warming, but you should drive slowly at first to allow the oil to thin and spread around, research has shown that warming the engine increases wear and tear and does not provide any benefit. The E90 engine also utilizes a electric water pump that turns on at a certain temp, a variable oil pump and a heat exchanger from the radiator coolant to the oil intake, to warm the engine more rapidly.
Best of luck!

Yep,
Drive off straight away at reasonable speeds to ensure engine is warmed up. Should take only a few mins and you will be well on your way to your destination.

No warming required. Sometimes I'll even take it a step further and drive halfway to work before I start the car.

Mine revs a hell of a lot when I press the start button.
It scared the crap out of me the first few times,
and even still, after I've had it for a week,
it seems very odd to me, lol.

on some car this can be an problem, trottle body can have a "digital offset" and ecu may read it with some error (on real position). (not full open or full closed)

Never mind the fact that when you're sitting there warming your car, you're also getting 0 miles per gallon for no reason.

You got a lot of funny and well deserved replies.

One thing that's unique on this car with the pushbutton starter is that the computer takes all the guesswork out of the starting process. You don't have to hold the button for instance until the car starts with most key ignition systems. Just push, let go, and the computer does the rest. I've even been surprised when I don't insert the keyfob completely in the car, push the button, then fully insert the fob, the car will still start automatically if you have the clutch pedal depressed. Caught me by surprise!
