DTC help. Traction control...not "DCT"

Can anyone help me figure out the different modes there are? Can someone help explain the E-Diff?

1. When I drive around normally, I see nothing light up in the instrument cluster unless the back wheels get a little excited and spin up.

2. If I push it once, I just see the light DTC on in the instrument panel. What mode is this? Half-off? or Half on?

3. If I hold the button down, I think it turns EVERYTHING off, and I can wheel-spin or drift to my heart's content. Is that correct?

I have a 2010 M-sport car, no DSC.

The manual says that if I push the DTC button, it turns DTC "ON"...but that doesn't make any sense to me.

Could someone please clarify? Thanks! Liking this forum already very much.

Half off = half on.

Hold the button down = ediff, AFAIK. You can spin to your heart's content, but the system will apply some brake to the spinning wheel, to try to ge the other to hook up.

thanks just saw that. I want the T-shirt!

So, does every 135i have DSC? I only have a DTC button.

I now understand the E-diff thing....makes sense.

Yes, you have DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) which is automatically activated when you start the car. To turn it off, press and hold the DTC button for 3 seconds.

See your manual for more info.

Gotcha. I just saw a DTC button, and didn't realize the tricky BMW way of presenting us with DSC/DTC.
I get it now.
I need to go find an empty parking lot to do donuts in.
