fob opening windows and roof

Reading though all the faq's I wonder if this is still true on the 128i convertible as it does not work on mine:

"L1. Can I open all my windows/sunroof/roof with the key fob?

By pressing and holding the unlock button on the key fob, all Windows will wind down, the sunroof will open, and the Vertical top will retract. If you let go of the button the open will stop immediately where each opening is up to."

I know closing does not work due to US safety measures, but I can't do either one, any idea my friendly convertible drivers?

You have to hold it down for a long time, longer then I thought. Just try holding it down longer.

Thanks, will try again, but I gave up after about 20sec. Any longer and it is easier to open the car and hit the button

You have to have comfort access - which I do not have. I could add a "smart top" from a third party and gain this capability and also open and close by momentary contact on the buttons inside the car. I think it costs around $400 and I haven't decided to spend the money yet. The feedback from others is positive, however. I think you basically just plug it in but you may have to take the rear seat out or something to get to the plug.

Thank you so much, yes that's probably is the reason since I do not have the option either. However, I just looked up the smart top, it's already on my wife's wish list for X-mas

Here's a different take if you're considering getting it. I don't have a convertible, but if I could permanently disable the fob/window lowering, I would:

Too many times, I've walked outside to a BMW with all windows and moonroof open because the fob gets unintentionally pressed while in a pocket (or purse in my wife's case). Luckily all of these occasions were on dry days!

2010 135i Coupe  [5.26]
This should work no matter what. I do not have comfort access and mine worked from day 1... although this may be different for verts (I have a coupe).

If you're in the city, there's a guy in the Bronx who can program them to also go up from the fob (among a long list of other fun things).

You have a point there, but I have my key actually in a little cover from BMW which I have to open first to press a button, thanks for the heads up though.

Hmmm, that might be a cheaper solution, can you PM me his contact info?

for me the windows only open while the car is still locked (and i'm pressing the button). if i unlock the car, and then hold down the button, the windows don't open. so make sure your car is still locked. i hold the button down for about 10 seconds before the windows open

I have comfort access, and I've had no success with opening the top with the key fob. Not sure if I'm not holding down the button long enough or what, but it's never worked for me.

Looks like it's not working on convertibles, tried it in all variations and times.

I believe the feature was dectivated via software on convertibles built before the 2010 MY by BMW on cars shipped to the USA . It works on our 2010 128i Conv after a short press and hold of the unlock. Press & hold the lock button to raise the roof & if you continue to hold after the roof is up, the windows will close too.

2008 135i Vert  [0.00]
I have the '08 and CA. It works on my vert, but you must be within 5-6' of the car. Click it once to unlock, then click and hold it down. It will start moving in <5 sec. It is really nice to stand outside the car on hot days and open it to let the heat out. It does the same for going up - but I do wish it would roll the windows up too.

I am about 4" away and still nothing, it just clicks again for the door locks. Holding it for 30sec, still nothing. Maybe the 08 128i is the exception

I have a '08 128i (coupe) and I can lower all the windows and open the sunroof with the key fob. I can also close the windows and sunroof, but I programmed the car to do that

No secret, just a Windows laptop I had lying around and the proper OBD II cable. NCS Expert is necessary, too, of course!

Not nearly as easy as VCDS nee VAG-COM (I'm a long term VW and Audi owner and VERY familiar with VCDS), but not too difficult either. Mostly, it's just a more cumbersome process and it's much easier to mess it up.

It also works without comfort access if you have the factory alarm installed.

So you guys are saying that if I use NCS Expert and adjust the codes in my car I can have remote-control top-down even though I didn't purchase Comfort Access?
