E90 vs. Mazdaspeed 6

There was a thread about this earlier, which was ultimately hijacked and turned into a sad and hopefully non-repeated collection of Japanese motor-car bashing. I would ask that people stay on topic here, and simply discuss the similarities, differences of one vehicle as opposed to another.

At any rate, Autoweek posted an interesting article on the Mazdaspeed 6, comparing it to the three series. It can be found here:
Autoweek article

As an aside, I saw a grey Mazdaspeed 6 on my way to work yesterday. It looks quite nice in the sheetmetal, but nowhere near as refined or prestigious as a 3 series. Frankly, I feel the cars are aimed at completely different audiences: one is a luxury sedan with excellent performance, the other a souped-up sports version of a low-end performance sedan. Your mileage and opinions may vary!

I think the author of the article summed it up well, "The MazdaSpeed6 may be a better sport sedan than most competitors' efforts, but it can't beat BMW at its own game."

I like it, except for the fact that it received a "Poor" rating for side crash test from the IIHS. I could never consider it because of that alone -- shame.

If the weight distribution remains the same in the Mazdaspeed 6 as in the regular mazda 6, handling should not even be comparable to the 3 series. I have driven several 6's before, and from my experience all seem to be very nose heavy. Although the AWD in the mazdaspeed version should help, I doubt it would make a huge difference if the weight distribution remained the same

The problem was that Lux was to immature to accept the fact that people have valid opinions that differ from his own. And that's all I have to say about it...

Well I dunno about you but it has more power and torque than a 330i, an advanced all wheel drive system, and still costs less than a 325i. It may not be a BMW but it's definitely not overpriced.

I'm aware of the power it has. But I still think it's a bit expensive because it doesn't stand out from the competition. When I think turbo, power and AWD I immediately think EVO. Despite its reliability problems, it's an absolutely fabulous car, it's just different, I feel like I'm getting something special for the money it costs.

The regular 6 is a great car in the range of Accords and Camrys, it offers more sport and better looks in exchange of comfort/luxury, it's also more unique. But this MAZDASPEED6, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I am sure you are right in a view point of power/$.

An Evo costs $32-$35k. The 6 is $28k.

And a regular 6 is around 23k, I'd either save money and buy that, or spend money and buy EVO.

Just remember.... "If you have to explain to people why your car is cool, then it isn't a cool car." Jeremy Clarkson -Top Gear

Most people will only see the Speed6 as a regualar 6.
