The 1 series coupe has always looked like a "hat", where have you been for the last 2 yrs? And the IS-F looks "cobbled" together, and it does just fine. And "hobbled" means to limp or to impede movement...

They fixed the one thing I just couldnt get over on the 1 series, the front lights.
That coupled with an M version, this is now my next car! Glad I waited instead of just getting a 335.

+1 I love my 135 but the headlights are the only thing that really bugged me. Love the new lights |

Too bad...
What many of us feared has come true. The 1 series M coupe is just one of those cars. The rumor is exciting and as it gets closer to release the truth of the matter gets less and less exciting. This car is nothing like what we wanted or what we asked for. It's a few lbs lighter and a few ponies hotter but if this is what BMW now calls an M car then I think we have to seriously rethink where this company is headed. BMW wake up, we want the real thing not this warmed over 135. Please get with the program, were are begging you! We expected SO much more.

Well said. I'll keep my real M and spend my M sized money on a different brand. I'm loyal but with this direction, I cannot continue.
Again, wake up BMW. We aren't buying appliances or gas sippers but real sports cars and we are willing to write a sizable check. With a different powertrain, I'd be sold. So disappointing. :-( Quote:

With the technology that is available now I wished BMW would of just used the S54 motor instead, but I guess it would of been out of budget. I think it would of made the car a bit more interesting.

Then the E9x M3 is the car for you. BMW did wake up. The 1M is intended to be a no frills, back to basics, semi-affordable sports car.

Although the E46 M3 looks better. This new car seems to have everything that my old moded E46 M3 had and then some. Seems this car has most everything already included that I modified my E46 M3 to try and get. Only difference is that this thing should be crazy w/chip vs. E46 M3s 10hp w/a chip. I'll have to wait and see if they offer a CSL version later.

+1 Save yourself some cash and get a car with some pedigree. Similar performance, but from a true bespoke M car. I was really excited for the 1M but I have to say, after savoring the performance data a bit and staring at the new body style for a week, I must admit I am disappointed.
For any E46 M3 owner this will be a very difficult move to justify. For a savvy prospective buyer, the last gen M3 is going to start looking pretty damn good. Even if you buy a lightly used M3, get inspection II done, a few repairs, and supercharge it; you will still be saving a bundle and getting a ton of performance out of it.
