Anyone ever see or can validate this?

From a youtube video comment to get your 'GPS' digital speed to show up on your instrument cluster:

"What you do is this, get in the car, close your door, and turn on the ignition(press the start/stop button, but not the brake). Wait 10 sec or more, and then press the resetter on the speedometer and hold it until a triangle appears, then the oil, then after those you'll have something called 01.00 and something else under it. When that appears you stop pushing the button and wait like 1-2 sec for a number to appear

What you do next is that you add the last 5 numbers 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +5, after that you press the button again for 2 sec and it will display 01.__ then just press the button until you reach 19.__ And it will say lock:ON and then you just press up to the number that you got from adding the 5 numbers together. Then it's unlocked, then go to 08.__ which is the speedindicator. 08.00 is realtime gps speed, 08.01 is digital speed ridden from the needles "

Anyone see/do this already?

Umm, if BMW put a GPS tracking link in my car and didn't tell me I will be supremely pissed off. Since I don't have nav, I need no tracking link. If there is one, it's being ripped out.

^^That does NOT get you a GPS signal!! ...that gets you into the Instrument Pannel secret menu/cookies! It will display the actual road speed. But you have to enter that 'add up" VIN every time you want to get into the instrument pannel. It is a PIA.

here is how...

http://e90.wetpaint.com/page/BC+hidden+menus?t=anon

Btw... the actual speed via the car's wheel sesnor is very accurate. You will have the same speed shown as your GPS navi will display - as long as you have OE sized tires. When I switched to 225/255's my M3 digital speedo reads lower by 1kph less than true GPS speed. Still better than the +3% of what the speedo shows/reports.

BTW-II... you can always have your instrument pannel (Kombi in German) coded to have the M3's digital speedo displayed. "V = kph (or mph)" depending on what your menu settings are set too.

Umm, all the 135's (from what I know) have a cellular & GPS connection, even without having the Navi option. It's how BMW assist works...So my dealer told me when I purchased the vehicle.

Better start ripping stuff out...lol

Very true.. If you have BMW assist Big brother is watching you...

actually they only "look" for you when the airbags are deployed and or you press the button... But I guess someone has access to your ESN at BMW...

I got mine coded by a local guy in NYC. My car now reads the "V=[speed]" and I dig it. It's still not accurate according to my GPS speedo on the iphone.

That is because either "that guy" coded the M3 digital speedo to read the SAME as the speedo signal. ie: "buffered value". Or... you have non OE sized tires (larger or small overall diameter.).

When I had Thorsten from www.car-coding.de do mine... he asked me which I prefered. I wanted "true" vehicle speed. And ohh... even when you have the V-max removed and you do a top speed run... the digital speedo will ax out at 155mph/250kph!

I got my car coded by the same guy with actual road speed, and it is spot on. I'm betting it's your iPhone that is wrong.

Thanks for this. I had to enter the code only once though. It shows ~ 5kph less than the speedometer.
