So I got my JB3 in today and put it in this evening...HOLY CRAP! I took it out for a 30 min drive to see if I could get it adapted and WOW! Terry you and Burger Motorsports are awesome! This tune is amazing.

Congrats, we need to get together before exodus hits. When are you heading out? My car will be a granny grocery getter next to yours now.

it's a lot less drastic than it seems... this is a canned tune that is tested and tried and true with the N54 platform. So the tune itself is fine and will not cause detrimental issues. The 'learning' is simply the car taking in environmental variables, air temp, octane, engine temp etc and applying those measures to the tune to optimize it. So you can just plug this in and have no worries, after the car adapts the ECU (runs through the learning cycle) it could potentially make more power. |

Umm so I was kind of interested in Laloosh's questions but it looks like he was banned after only 4 posts. Two of them are in this thread and they didn't look especially provocative to me. I was hoping someone from BMS would chime in.

why was this laloosh banned? he has very valid questions...many would like to know the parameters that are altered...and data logs to back them up...i miss my vag-com i had with the audi scene...we all should email Sales@Ross-Tech.com and tell them we all would love for them to make an OBD2 software and key

Anyone have answers to these questions? I'm used to the evo forum where this type of info is discussed all the time. |

Every modern car in production does this. It's a requirement of OBDII. It's not even close to theory or rumor, it's been in practice for at least a decade. :iono: |

Does anyone know if each time you swap tune with the JB3 if it has to re-learn? That'd be my thinking and a severe limitation to the new easy tune change that v1.2 offers.

So laloosh....what happens to the modern car when you put better gas in your tank...ie higher octane?

No they advance and retard timing and fuel curves based on the environmental factors they are experiencing. It's commonly refered to as adaptation, and it's a requirement of OBDII to be able to maintain performance and emissions as the vehicle ages and part wear. |

The stock car, the procede, and the JB all "ride the knock sensors" in a sense 100% of the time. This is how the car adapts up to 8 degrees of timing between 91 octane , 93 octane, and 100 octane The ECU will always straddle the line, which is most efficient for combustion. So take a stock car running on 93 octane, and then bring that octane to say 94. Timing will almost instantly come up. There is a range of around 8 degrees it moves fluidly through. If you go beyond that range, which you can do running say 15psi with no timing control, then you start getting check engine lights." Both tuners state that their tunes work in conjunction with 1) the stock ECU knock sensors and 2) timing thresholds built into the ECU so as not to trigger out of range/implausibility engine codes. So there is obviously some form of timing control going on, otherwise the tunes would be throwing engine codes left and right at 15 psi of boost pressure. |
