I think by bearings you mean the rubber bushings (hangers). Your first clue if the pipes were cut too long is that the hangers will be on a slant towards the back of the car. They are designed to support the weight of the exhaust by hanging straight down. They slip over metal mounting points with a flange at the end to prevent them from slipping off, one secures the bushing at the top, the other mounts to the exhaust, in other words both mounting points should be fairly close to verticle.

Does anyone have pictures of the exhaust installed "properly" on a 135 with the stock diffusor? I have yet to see one where the pipes don't stick out...

No pictures, but I was looking at mine since this thread started. I have the stock diffuser, and they do stick past it a little, but the tips come out to different lengths, and if you look straight down from above the car they come out just to the bumper, and sort of follow the curve of the bumper at that point. I like it there.

As for the interior resonance at 1800-2200, its not that its so bad, but just an odd place to have it, since the car (with Steptronic) spends a lot of time in that range.

I would never trim the tips without a way to treat the ends - as mentioned, the chrome goes away on the edge, and is subject to rust.

Have Fun,
Rick

I think I have hit a wall with my performance exhaust decision. I prefer the black stock tips, and I don't want the drone.

Dang... I am getting old!

It has to be something other than age...I'm 60 and think the Performance Exhaust is absolutely perfect. At first I really hated to see the black chrome tips go but I got over it. All I had ever seen was chrome tips before the ONE so no real big deal...unless you just want to be looking for a reason not to get the exhaust.

No exhaust will give you any real HP gain alone. If that's your sole reason for getting it then just keep the OEM. If you are not looking for a more aggressive sound then just keep the OEM.

I measured the tips on mine and found it extends 1" pass the diffuser. I prefer that length because it helps to keep the bump cleaner and for me it looks more aggressive. However, as others have said the pipe can be cut shorter with no issues for installation.

Regrets? I don't do regrets...life is just to short

My friend is selling his Performance exhaust for $500. Nothing wrong with it, he is getting rid of his 135i. Local Chicago area only.

PM me If anyone is interested.

How does that compare to the photos above that penny posted? I think it would look nice if the end of the tips were .5" -.75" past the edge of the diffusor outlet.

The exhaust is stainless, not chrome. Sheesh! It will not rust if cut. It seems as though no one looked up the DIY so here are pics of the Performance Exhaust with the stock tips and the stock diffuser.

Here is a side view of the car, sorry that the important part is heavily shaded. Anyway I think the exhaust fits perfectly on my car but the CF diffuser has a different contour then the stock one.

Rcracer_tx, these performance exhaust were meant to be used with the cf diffusor. The diffusor will tuck it much better... base on what I was told. That's how they get you to spend your money.

LOL, that makes sense. I was wondering why it was sticking so far out...BMW wouldn't want to make it so you didn't buy the rear diffuser

Matt, you ended up getting the p diffusor, eh? Looking good.

After seeing that I'm gonna have to take mine back to the shop and hack off an inch. Maybe its my installation that sticks out more than others. You think the local shop will charge me extra if they installed it a little longer than usual?
