How do you lift your 1 series?

Was wondering how everyone amongst the 1addicts community lifts their 1 series onto jacks to gain access to underneath the chassis. I just got the cobb V3 and AR design 4" catless downpipes from **********s and was wondering how I'm going to remove/ reinstall the factory DP for taking it in for routine service. It also be nice to be able to learn how to do the install myself, to prevent frequent visits to my exhaust shop in San Rafael. All help would be appreciated

To fit a jack i put down strips of wood the same width as the front tires. Drive onto them (2layers of 3/4 inch) and my jack fits fine.

+1 . You need a long low profile jack to reach the center mounting point.

I normally use ramps unless i need to specifically need to work with a wheel off then I work on 1 wheel at a time with a jack and stand.

Race ramps for me =) Plus, also have a long low-profile jack to reach the center jack point.

Sucks when you're dumped on coils -_- I need an accordion jack to lift it high enough to fit a shop jack but is what it is... Prior to dumping it I used the rhino ramps

I stage 2x6s and drive up on them so i can slide my jack to the center point. My car is low but not hype-kid low.

I prefer to jack from the engine or rear diff to save time if I need to really get under the car. The front is too low even with my low "race" jack, so I have to pull up on ramps first. I have standard cheap plastic ramps from the autoparts store that work just fine. The rear I can jack directly.

I'm close to buying a specialized uber-long/low jack so I can get the front up without pulling on ramps first. The only one I can find that I'm sure will work is around $250-300 or so, though. Haven't quite justified that purchase yet.

The 2x6 solution is a good idea.

Just looked these up, so far these are the most affordable option I have found, thank you sir! I'm assuming you use these? Will this have enough clearance for working with the downpipe?

I'll tell you what man, there isn't a *ton* of room, but I can change my oil easily without any issue, and I did my intercooler without any issue. There is definitely access to the downpipes, but you won't be doing any cartwheels under there. It's just so much more of a convenient option if you're doing something that doesn't require the wheels to be off. It makes doing your own maintenance not so big of a chore.

I am wrapping up my turbo upgrade, which was done on race ramps. I feel much safer with the car on them than jack stands... And yeah, definitely no cartwheels.

Up until two months ago, I used Rhino Ramps. The problem with them was that my car has the BMW Performance carbon fiber lip, springs, and aero kit, so it would tend to rub against the ramps if I didn't have some 2X6s helping out.

I got a set of Race Ramps for Christmas, and they are awesome! They actually lift the car higher, no chance of rubbing, and I have the kind that break into two pieces just in case I need to have full access under the car.

The Race Ramps are expensive, but definitely the way to go!

I've got two methods.

1. I have one low profile jack and one non. Low profile with BMW jack puck on left front lifting location to raise the vehicle high enough to slide the other jack either at the center front location or the rear differential. Raise the vehicle to the desired height and lower onto jack stands. I use small wood blocks that fit into the jacking locations so as the jack stands do not destroy the plastic lifting point cups/pockets.

2. Using the low profile jack, lift at the rear left point high enough to put a jack stand at the front left jack point and then lower down onto the jack stand. Next I now have enough room to slide the low profile jack to the center front location. To raise the rear reverse the initial jacking location and jack stand.

At the end of the day it's up to you but I've found a quality low profile jack is key.

+1 for rhino ramps. Then 2x6 or 2x4 doesn't matter, to ride onto the ramps

Seems like rhino ramps may be the more viable option just because it functions the same way as the race ramps, for a quarter of the price. Ill update you guys with what I end up getting; thank you to all for the feedback

I use the rhino ramps on the 135 but also purchased this aluminum jack for about $60 at Northern Tool, really good jack and is very low to the floor, my Vette is lowered and this jack fits with clearance, great for taking to the track. Highly recommended for the garage, and the handle breaks down for travel.
