Hexon Autowerks RR700, preliminary dyno results at Advan performance

Hey guys,

some RR700 results from Kent's car following a quick dyno tune before he blasted off to Melbourne for the weekend, lol.

N.B. this is on 98 RON fuel only, NO Ethanol, NO Meth' injection.

The PI kit was not being energised nor was the Fuel-It Stage 3 LPFP.

AFR's were mid to high 11's and maximum ignition advance was only 7.5 degrees above 6,500rpm.

The WGDC was super low, in part due to the TFT system and the fact that 17psi at peak power in no sweat for these 700's.

Back-end-flash for Pump fuel was courtesy of Trebila Performance of course and the car was run on Map 3 with some Duty Bias tweaks by myself so I could create the boost curve I wanted.

Straight E85 results will be coming next week.

Cheers,

JD.

P.S. these are not going to be Pure Stage 2 killers, but I suspect they will be giving RB's a very good run for their money.

An excellent result with plenty of head room for improved numbers.

Firstly thanks to kent for letting me give these rr700s a go. coming from my stock n54 my impressions are:

the first day driving on them they felt abit meh bit unresponsive and didn't feel they pulled that hard - but the second day they really came alive!! (and stayed like this since)dunno what changed between the two days (besides the aero package thanks to the kangaroo) :

below 2k rpm they pull almost exactly like stock maybe a tiny bit better. which is no slouch. throttle response is great and even with the D mode of the alpina flash you can plot around town and it just feels like a stock car.

for those worried about lag I wouldn't be. the best way to describe it is that there is a transition point around 2-2.5k where the boost starts ramping up and it comes in nice and progressively below that you have a stock car (400nm or whatever it is).

realistically if your buying these turbos your not going to be keeping them below 2k rpm anyway. and if you do you get stock like performance.

but the biggest difference i noticed is the top end these things just keep pulling!!! can't wait to experience this thing fully tuned on e85.

based on my initial impressions:

1. I want a set

2. the only reason you should be picking the rr600s over the rr700 is $$$.

oh and one other thing checked the oil level after 1500km still full and no smoke while driving so in my eyes these turbos are already miles ahead of the smoky RBs .

CashedUpBogun goes 435rwkw with his new, non-smoking, Hexon RR700's.

As per the 3series thread a big congratulations, the new stock frame Aussie record on the Advan dyno is yours.

JD75 please post the logs.

Bloody air bag suspension...Bogun!

Can you guys please print dyno graphs showing torque in metric units and with RPM as the X axis and mention what gear it's in?

No idea when peak torque happens, no idea when peak boost is reached...

just looking at the graph it looks like a pretty constant torque over the entire rev range.

I'd say they limited the torque to protect the auto gearbox. be interesting to see these turbos targeting max boost all the way through (probably need a manual for that or someone willing to risk it on their auto).

It's just the way some australian dyno operators post graphs. It's like going back in time lol. Those that do post torque often leave it as derived torque or worse, tractive effort (N).

Power and torque in actual metric values and RPM as X axis is the way to go. Makes it super easy to compare and make evaluations on how the setup is behaving without needing to dig through logs as well.

all you need is power and rpm on the x axis and you can calculate torque. no need to know what gear your in.

not sure why they use speed on the x axis kind of meaningless without knowing what gear your in. in saying that you get a pretty accurate picture by assuming that the graph starts at 2k rpm and ends around 7k

Graph is power and boost.
All dyno runs in 4th gear no matter auto or manual.

does 4th gear in manual and auto in the e9x/e8x result in the same final ratio? they definitely have different diff ratios.

even so it makes comparing between cars (makes/models) difficult as you need to calculate what speed corresponds to what rpm.

maybe Justin can chime in on why they don't plot rpm on the x axis? I'm sure there is a reason

Dyno runs are done on a gear that has the closest to being a 1:1 ratio regardless of it being an auto or manual

I know its annoying showing boost and speed I would rather see torque and rpm.
Has to be more beneficial for tuning seeing torque.

This may help.

Tire size and final drive will change results. For example I have a 3.85 in my auto.

5th gear is too fast for many dyno's hence 4th gear.

You want your dyno run in the 1:1 gear to minimise drivetrain losses. As stated above some dynos can't run that fast for certain cars.

Do some googling on how transmissions work to see why 1:1 is the lowest drivetrain loss.
