Showed up at an Audi dyno day (chart inside)

Well I didn't get a chance to really log the car and have Terry give me the best advice, so I probably shouldn't talk about my results. Overall I was pretty impressed that the car laid down such an amazing amount of power.

420whp / 493wtq - Map 8 w/92 Octane (1 gallon + 3 gallons of 101). I took a photo with my droid of the actual dyno graph it is not scanned or very pretty. The car was dirty and the dyno numbers were even more dirty (sorry to all the audi guys who didn't break 300).

Yummy.

Actual Mod List.
Riss Downpipes (1st gen)
Code3 FMIC (old school as well)
BMS Dual Cone Intake
JB3 2.0 (3.22.10 update) - Map 8
92 Octane + 101 Octane Trick Fuel (mixed)

Ouch!
Are you planning on keeping this car more than 2-3 years?

Great question...i have been more than a whore lately but 18 months already so almost a record for longest ownership!

The only concern I have is the inevitable kid factor that is currently in play (this year is 30 and the wife is sure closing fast on it!)... but that could easily be rectified by another 4 door daily (just sold my B5 S4 Avant).

How are you liking yours? I know we were buying at a similar time...

I've been careful to mod the car based on fear of longevity issues. Thoughts of a C6 Z06 or 997 keep crossing my mind, but that damn euro delivery adds so much more sentimental value. That being said, only 6k on it, lucky if I drive it twice a week, the feeling is still fresh and I still love it.

My wife and I are the same as you and yours. I know alot of people will throw on a JB3 but then also sell/give back their car in the next year or two so I'm trying to find people who, like me, may keep their cars and still mod for power.

I plan on keeping this car for a looooong time. Then I will purchase another for a daily driver and keep this as my side toy. 26k miles, tuned and still running strong on the original HPFP

Sick numbers! My roommate used to have a C6Z. That car is just a BEAST! Loved it! Nothing will accelerate that fast for the money in stock form on 4 wheels.

Man, that BIG spike at low revs has me thinking those little turbo's are being overspun in order to get a big number.
That's a huge bump, but it dies fairly quick to a more reasonable number. The bump is really giving a "false" peak torque number, because it's not very useable except for melting your tires.

I'm not a big fan of this trend toward big low rpm torque with a BIG loss of high rpm torque. These engines dyno's start to look like a diesel and not a high performance engine.
Just look at how fast the bump torque drops, followed by a quickly dieing midrpm with very little the upper rev band.

Too many people complain about "lag", but this is what happens when you tune to try and remove all of it. You have to use small turbo's that simply can't flow the air needed at higher rpm.
This may be nice for an automatic trans daily driver that gives jackrabbit off the line power, but where's the power up top?
It's really lacking. I hope the N55 helps a bit by smoothing the torque curve and moving it up the band.

The torque starts its suicide jump at 4750 RPM...thats completly not useable at all.

How the hell did you up the power and tq from a base of around 270 to over 400 with that flimsy of a mod list? Or is this engine gimped that much from factory... where opening air flow a bit, gaining an aftermarket IC, a tuner and some mixed fuel gain over 150 whp? Sounds a tad more than fishy to my turbo geared brain.

I have not received my car yet, and am no expert on the N54, but would love some input here. My head says this is BS, my heart hopes its true.

Should have shown the dyno screen on camera while it was tuning...

That chart reminds me of modded SRT4 dyno charts (my previous ride and current setup in my 1st gen neon). From the factory, the SRT4 was set at 14psi with some spiking as high as 16psi. The sweet spot on that turbo is 18-19psi, yielding a good safe amount of power. BUT, many tuners would push them as hard as 23-24psi spike and settling at 22psi or so. This would result in insane torque early in the RPM range but lots of hot air in the second half of the chart. Me being a more conservative person who didn't want to blow up their investment went with a 20psi spike, settling to 17psi @ 7.5k RPMS. That got me a nice graph, with HP coming on steady and torque staying flat.

I don't have any compressor maps or facts to back up my thoughts, but I would think that running 10-12psi in the 135i, roughly 3-5psi over stock, would be as high as I'd go and still expect reliability. Anything above that I'd guess the turbo is losing efficiency and there is a higher chance for detonation, thus the need for race gas.

I really hope this is something the M division can fix with the M1 otherwise its engine wont be any better than a tuned n54

My car with only Catless DP's, DCI, and SSTT (1st run), then Procede Rev. II w/5min adaptation....

You are on the right track with your thinking. For example the Procede tune recommends a "Stage" per mod tune. Stage 2 for example is ~13psi max and Stage 3 ~16psi max (don't know stage 1 never used it...LOL)...I think stock is either 7-8 psi.....
